The Sun exclusively revealed the popular ITV show would be making a shock return
ITV BOSSES are lining up a shock return for Dancing on Ice - and fans are undoubtedly thrilled by the prospect.
The Sun exclusively revealed the channel's boss Kevin Lygo is keen to bring the show back in 2017, and Jayne Torvill has now confirmed the news.
The revelations have sparked speculation on the format of the revamped show – and who will be involved.
Olympic skater Jayne and ice dance partner Christopher Dean were previously said to be in talks over their possible involvement, while The Sun revealed Aussie choreographer Jason Gardiner is also being lined up.
Here's everything you need to know about the show and its possible return.
What is Dancing on Ice and how does it work?
Dancing on Ice was a live ice dancing competition which saw a number of celebrities compete each week with a partner and scored for their efforts - think Strictly but on ice.
Each week would be based around a certain skating skill (for example an axel jump) and they would skate to music.
The judging panel (or Ice Panel) would give them a mark between 0.0 and 6.0 (series 1 to 5) or between 0.0 and 10.0 (series 6 to 9).
The ITV show proved to be a massive hit with audiences and ran from 2006 to 2014.
Who were the presenters on Dancing on Ice?
This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield presented the show from the first series through to the sixth , before Christine Lampard took over as co-host from series seven through to nine.
Holly has previously admitted that she owes her career to Phil - and claims he pushed for her to get the daytime telly job after the pair worked together on Dancing on Ice.
It has not been confirmed whether or not the pair will return to the rink if the show is rebooted, or if Christine will be part of it.
Were Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean involved in Dancing on Ice?
Olympic champions Jayne Torvill and Christoper Dean were the creative directors of the ITV series.
They also helped train the aspiring ice dancers and performed routines during many of the live shows.
Torvill and Dean announced they would leave the show after its ninth series in 2014.
The year marked the 30th anniversary of their famous Olympic Bolero performance, and the pair marked it as their careers "coming full circle".
Why was Dancing on Ice axed?
After Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean announced that they would be leaving the show, it was soon announced that the show would be cancelled.
The shock news of the axe sparked rumours that it was cancelled due to falling ratings.
At the time, Christopher Dean said: “We want the show to end at the top of its game. We aren't hanging up our skating boots, but we will be slowing down."
Who were the judges on Dancing on Ice?
The only constant judge on the show was figure skating champion Robin Cousins.
Jason Gardiner appeared in all but one series. For series 8 he was replaced by Louie Spence after some nasty remarks about Karen Barber and Sharron Davies the year before.
Karen Barber was also judge on the show until she became head judge from series 6 while Nicky Slater was axed after series 5.
The Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts and Spice Girls' Emma Bunton also appeared on the panel for one series.
Is Dancing on Ice making a comeback?
The Sun exclusively revealed the channel's boss Kevin Lygo is keen to bring the show back in 2017, and Jayne Torvill has since confirmed the show will come back with a revamped look.
She told The Sun: "I think it will be refreshed, obviously the basics are still the same, we've got to teach celebrities how to skate.
She said: "My son is a massive Steven Gerrard fan; he wants him to do Dancing On Ice as he’s retired now.“He’s also keen on David Beckham taking part but I told him that’s unlikely.”
Who will be on this year's Dancing on Ice?
A number of names have been batted around for series 10 of Dancing On Ice already – including Jamie O'Hara, Katie Price, Steven Gerrard and Michelle Heaton.
The Price took to social media in late April to declare she wants to appear on the show, tweeting: “I would so do this”.
While Michelle put herself forward, telling The Sun Online: “Dancing On Ice would be my ultimate… I’ve never done ice skating and I’ve never professionally been taught dancing … Let’s hop I can pull some strings.”
And show coach Jayne Torvill says Steve Gerrard would be a top contestant, telling The Sun: “My son is a massive Steven Gerrard fan; he wants him to do Dancing On Ice as he’s retired now.”
