DAWSON'S Creek star James Van Der Beek has revealed he is selling autographed merchandise to help the 'financial burden of cancer'.

James Van Der Beek rose to fame as Dawson Leery in Dawson's Creek, which ran for six seasons from 1998 until 2003.

Outside of his main TV character lead, James also starred in movies including 90s American football feature Varsity Blues, which saw him play Jonathan 'Mox' Moxon.

Now after revealing he has stage 3 colorectal cancer, the star is selling merchandise to help fund his cancer treatment and the financial impact of fighting the illness.

Writing on Instagram, a smiling James showed off a blue football jersey from 90s film Varsity Blues.

He told fans in the post: "Merch drop! Excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of  with a limited edition  Moxon jersey—each one personally autographed by me.

"100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own)."

The star was flooded with support from fans in the comments as one wrote: ";Great movie, but you will always be Dawson to me! Loved growing up with you my Dude."

Another added: "I ordered! One of my all time favorites!"

Another shared: "Some of your best work, I don't even like football and I've watched it 100x".

Others referenced James' recent cancer diagnosis, which he revealed in November.

One fan posted: "Thank you for bringing colon cancer more into the spotlight.

"Being a stage 4 colon cancer fighter, I truly appreciate you speaking out for the case. Much love!"

Another said similar as they commented: "We're fighting the same battle. Stage 3 also."

Last month the Dawson's Creek star revealed he'd been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and is currently being supported by his family.

In a statement to , he said: "I have colorectal cancer.

"I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family.

"There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good."

James has continued to work despite his diagnosis, appearing in a recent episode of Walker and a new film for Tubi called Sidelined: The QB And Me, which will be released on November 29.

He is also prioritising time with his large family, having had six children with wife Kimberly.
