Huge pop group famed for catfights and changing line-ups join Louis Theroux’s tell-all girlband documentary

THE SUGABABES have been approached to join Louis Theroux’s tell-all girlband documentary, Girlbands Forever.

Famed for their catfights and changing line-ups, , Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan could be appearing in a follow up to the recently-aired Boybands Forever.

A source told The Sun: “Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan are in talks with the production team about appearing in this tell-all documentary.

"They haven’t signed on the dotted line yet but they are keen to tell their side of the story, in full, for the first time and lift the lid on the revolving door of bandmates and all the drama and chaos that went on behind the scenes.

"There were lots of rumours about that time, and this will give them chance to definitively sort fact from fiction.”

Three-parter Girlbands Forever starts filming within weeks and will hit screens later this year on BBC Two.

It will look back at this phenomenal musical era of the Nineties and Noughties, with all its highs and lows.

Groups already contacted to take part in the programme also include the Spice Girls, Girls Aloud, All Saints, Atomic Kitten, and Eternal.

The show was given the green light by the BBC following the huge success of Boybands Forever, which touched on the experiences of groups including East 17, 5ive, Damage and 911.

The outstanding contribution, however, came from Robbie Williams as he discussed his fractious time in Take That, particularly vying with his former rival Gary Barlow and their manager, Nigel Martin-Smith.

A representative for The Sugababes has confirmed the band has been approached, but not yet signed on, to take part.

The Sugababes were formed in 1998 by All Saints manager Ron Tom.

Siobhán and Mutya, both aged just 13, had been signed as solo artists, but decided to work together after performing at the same showcase.

While working in the studio, Mutya invited her best friend Keisha to watch and she was picked to join the them.

Originally called the Sugababies, the group's name was tweaked to Sugababes when they were signed by London Records, to give the group a more mature image.

The group's debut single, Overload, went to number six in 2000 and was nominated for a Brit Award and they released debut album One Touch.

However, during a Japanese promotional tour in 2001, Siobhán left the group.

She stated initially that she wanted to pursue a fashion career, but was eventually diagnosed with depression.

The band then got back together in 2022 and have remained the original threesome ever since.

After the shock of Siobhán's departure, Mutya and Keisha decided to carry on and add a new bandmate - enter .

Their first single Freak Like Me scored the group their first UK No1 single and they followed suit with their next single Round, Round.

The new formation was a big hit and they had THREE top ten albums together, numerous hit singles and even sang on the Band Aid 20 single.

But things didn't last.

In 2005, Mutya quit the band to pursue a solo career - being replaced bu Amelle Berrabah.

The new threesome had a HUGE hit with their song About You Now - and to date this is their highest-selling single.

They toured and released their top ten album Catfights And Spotlights.

They also teamed up with Girls Aloud for Comic Relief single Walk This Way.

But again - change was on the horizon.

The Babes were hit another blow when the only original band member, Keisha, quit the group in 2009.

Fans were distraught - with no more originals left, would The Sugababes continue?

The answer was yes - enter Eurovision star Jade Ewen.

Unfortunately this line-up didn't set the world on fire and the girls decided to officially call it quits in 2011.
