KATHERINE Jenkins and Alfie Boe have Carousel coming back around in a thoroughly enjoyable version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic.
The Welsh soprano, 36, is a revelation in her West End debut as Julie Jordan opposite fellow opera supremo Alfie, 43, as her husband Billy Bigelow.
The multi-million selling pair lead the cast with their incredible voices, along with a cast of over 50 and the English National Opera’s 40-strong orchestra.
But the show doesn’t have all of the fun of the fayre.
It follows unemployed Billy who beats his wife and spirals into a life of crime which takes a devastating twist.
In the end, an unlikely saviour helps to turn tragedy into triumph for the emotional finale, thanks to the Star Keeper, played by Nicholas Lyndhurst, 55.
A whole 72 years after it debuted on Broadway, the musical is just as exciting as ever with well-loved classics such as June is Bustin’ Out All Over and You’ll Never Walk Alone.
With its run at the London Coliseum strictly limited to five weeks, it deserves to be a Carou-sell out.
