When is The Yorkshire Vet on Channel 5?
The Yorkshire Vet airs TODAY (Tuesday, January 8) at 4pm on Channel 5.
What is The Yorkshire Vet about?
The Yorkshire Vet is a fly-on-the-wall documentary series following a pair of Yorkshire vets as they go about their daily duties.
Their daily activities range from routine check-ups on family pets, to looking after tiny baby lambs and newborn kittens, to castrating a herd of alpacas - and viewers are head over heels for vets Julian Norton and Peter Wright.
The Skeldale Veterinary Centre was famous before the series, as the inspiration for the beloved novel and BBC series All Creatures Great And Small.
Author James Herriot - real name James 'Alf' Wight - was inspired by his experiences as a vet in Skeldale to write a series of semi-autobiographical novels about animals and their owners, which were later adapted for the BBC TV series.
Actor Christopher Timothy, who played James Herriot in the BBC series, even provides the voiceover for the series in a nod to the practice's famous founder.
The beautiful Yorkshire countryside is as much a star of the show as its featured animals. Shots of the stunning landscapes featured in the show are considered to be directly responsible for a tourism boom in the Thirsk region.
Who are the show's stars Julian Norton and Peter Wright?
Peter Wright is a vet at the Skeldale Veterinary Centre, which is the subject of the documentary series.
He learned how to be a vet from All Creatures Great And Small creator James Herriot - otherwise known as James 'Alf' Wight - and took to the job like a duck to water.
He has previously said: "After half an hour of being at the practice, if Alf had said: 'Bring your sleeping bag and move in', I would have done. I loved it. There was just something about it that felt so right.
"There are so many different aspects to being a vet. That can be stressful because you never know what’s going to happen next. But it’s also part of the job’s appeal."
Wright is known on the show for being particularly bad at suturing - stitching animals together after they have been wounded or had an operation.
Julian Norton is Wright's colleague at the Skeldale practice. He was the driving force behind the pair agreeing to do the series, saying: "I figured that if the worst came to worst, we’d only end up looking a bit silly on national television."
Norton is also a very active man. He has competed for Britain in duathlon and has a world record for indoor rowing as well as having completed triathlons and Iron Man races. So when he's not looking after sick animals he can often be found training!
