Lily Allen begs ex-husband Sam Cooper not to leave her in an emotional new song revealing details of marriage breakdown for first time
MARK RONSON wasn’t lying when he promised LILY ALLEN’s next album would feature her “most honest and heartbreaking music ever”.
I can reveal she bares her soul over her break-up with husband Sam Cooper for the first time in a new song.
Family Man, which has leaked online, features lyrics where Lily sings to Sam and pleads with him to stay with her.
The chorus is: “It’s not always easy, being a family man. Baby, don’t leave me, I’m just doing what I can to get by.”
The troubled singer takes aim at herself in the verses, with a series of scathing, self-loathing lyrics.
She sings: “I know that you love me, though I’m young and stupid. I am wild and ruthless, you’re better off without me.
“I am more than selfish, I am tired, I’m helpless. If I had the time of day, I might give all my days to you.”
Lily split with builder Sam — the father of her children Ethel, five, and Marnie, four — in 2015 after six years together. It followed a rough few months that saw her collapse at Glastonbury.
Until now Lily has not spoken about their break-up. Instead she saved her heartache for the recording studio.
Family Man is a dark and haunting ballad — not the type of track she is generally known for. In other lyrics she describes herself as “faithless”, “lost” and “chainless” but insists she is “scared, not evil”.
After Sam, she moved on with grime MC MERIDIAN DAN, but in her new song she appears to hint at a reconciliation with her ex.
The final lines go: “I know we’re gonna pull through, but darling I need my time away from you.”
Lily has been working with pal Mark Ronson on the follow-up to her 2014 album Sheezus, which is expected out later this year.
Last year I told how Mark had teased an emotional record from Lily.
He said: “I feel like they’re some of the best songs she’s written. She writes so honestly, you can feel it.”
Her cheery debut single Smile seems a long time ago now.
KIM'S WEEPING UP
KIM KARDASHIAN weeps as she takes a call telling her that hubby KANYE WEST is in hospital after his breakdown in an emotional new episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
In scenes filmed last November, she tells sister KHLOE and mum KRIS she feels “emotionally drained” by Kanye’s crisis, which came six weeks after Kim was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. She blames the trauma for his crisis, saying: “After the robbery I’ve been staying home and looking to him to just take care of everything.” And she says after visiting him: “Kanye was really cute. He was like, ‘So this is what for better or for worse means’.” Maybe they are made for each other after all.
Slap the stylists
THEY say Coachella is a music festival – but it’s more like a giant catwalk in the desert for celebs to wear the weirdest things they can find in their wardrobe.
Take RIHANNA, for instance, who wore what appeared to be a double-denim cape, above main, to the bash in California, before slipping into a more comfortable purple glitter morph suit.
Or BROOKLYN BECKHAM, who did his best MICHAEL JACKSON impression by wearing a single glove on his left hand.
I’ve given the pair of them my Slap The Stylist stamp as a result.
Also living it up on the last night of the three-day event on Sunday were NICOLE SCHERZINGER, KATY PERRY, RITA ORA, LEONA LEWIS and TOVE LO, who ditched her clothes altogether.
Rihanna and Brooklyn should have thought of that.
BIZ METER: MUSIC
- NEW 1: LADY GAGA wasn’t the only one to debut music at Coachella over the weekend. LORDE performed Homemade Dynamite for the first time at the Californian festival, and it’s expected to be on her album Melodrama. Gaga gave a rendition of her song The Cure.
- NEW 2:IF you ever dreamed of hearing JUSTIN BIEBER sing in Spanish, your wish has been granted. The singer’s first track of 2017 is an unlikely feature on a remix of Puerto Rican stars LUIS FONSI and DADDY YANKEE’s song Despacito. The man is full of surprises.
- WINNERS: QUEEN’s Bohemian Rhapsody is named the ultimate British song – toppling OASIS’s Wonderwall from the No1 spot. It came top in Radio X’s Best Of British poll in which 25,000 votes were cast. Wonderwall dropped to No3,Oasis’s Live Forever came second.
- LOSERS: HER A Whole New World duet with ex PETER ANDRE still gives me nightmares. Now KATIE PRICE teases of a collaboration with husband KIERAN HAYLER after sharing a clip of his karaoke. The model wrote on Instagram: “I can feel a duet album coming on.”
Back to black
JESY NELSON looks to be still in mourning after her split from Towie’s CHRIS CLARK.
The LITTLE MIX singer was all in black as she landed in the UK following the band’s tour of America.
I revealed yesterday that Jesy’s pals fear Chris cooked up their romance as a publicity stunt and plans to get back with co-star AMBER DOWDING on the show.
Unlike Jesy, MEL B, seen here in LA this week, seemed a new woman in a virginal all-white outfit.
She appears to be using her wardrobe to show she is reborn after ditching horror hubby STEPHEN BELAFONTE.
Mel has been in pure white for every public outing since filing for divorce last month.
A fresh start needs a fresh look.
MANA LOVE
JANET JACKSON’s billionaire ex-husband Wissam Al Mana doesn’t seem to have had the memo about their split.
He poured his heart out to her in an emotional message, entitled “Love”, on his website. Next to a picture of Janet, he wrote: “To the most beautiful person in the world, thank you for your divine love, your eternal support and for being my best friend. “I love you so much, inshallah we will be together in the Great Forever x.” I revealed yesterday that Janet is writing a new album and going back on the road following their break-up earlier this month. With a split this friendly, maybe Wissam will get a shout-out on stage.
