THE Nightly Show saw Dermot O'Leary return to host the ITV show for its final week and some fans were left disappointed on Monday's show.

The X Factor host kicked off the show with his usual presenting style as he was joined by guests Lee Mack and Eamonn Holmes for the night time talk show.

But it appears Dermot's impressive first turn as the show's host might have been a one off as viewers did not seem to warm to him as much at the start of his stint.

One viewer wrote: "Dear Dermot O'Leary...Please put this to deadlock this is b****y awful #thenightlyshow

While another added: "#thenightlyshow Just caught 5mins of this after #broadchurch. Oh dear Dermot, this is not good :-("

One viewer tweeted: "Two minutes is all it took for me to realise that Dermot O'leary has no personality #CLICK! #thenightlyshow

But some fans were still pleased to have Dermot on their screens presenting  the show as one wrote: "Got to love @radioleary you can see he is sooooo comfortable in his presenting role! Love dermot! X @ITV #thenightlyshow"

Another agreed: "Dermot O'Leary is the best presenter yet on #thenightlyshow - very comfortable in the role"

Meanwhile some fans argued the show has been a failed experiment and tweeted that it would not need to be brought back again in the future.

One viewer wrote: "Thank christ its the last week of the utter "s***-shape" trash - next week back to NEWS AT TEN thank god #thenightlyshow"

While another added: "But so thankful it's the end of #thenightlyshow we need news at ten back in its rightful home.."

TV stars including David Walliams, John Bishop and Davina McCall have all failed to impress the public as producers offered a different presenter each week.

The Nightly Show – which replaced the 10 o’clock news – faced constant criticism from telly fans.

Chef Gordon Ramsay came under fire after using the F-word 16 times as 300,000 fans turned off.
