LINE of Duty saw Roz Huntley lose her arm in the penultimate episode of the show.

The character - played by Thandie Newton - finally saw a grim outcome for the wound she had been secretly nursing since the first episode of the series.

Roz's character had been doing her best to hide the deep, infected wound in each episode, but her husband had began to notice the disturbing smell coming from it.

The episode saw Roz ignoring a doctor's call warning her to get to a hospital as soon as possible and she paid the price for it.

After fainting in her home, Roz woke up to find herself in her hospital bed with a nurse and her husband Nick watching over her.

As the nurse tried to keep her calm, Roz realised her arm had been amputated and she immediately reacted with horror.

Her husband explained: "They had to operate to save your life, Roz.

"The wound was very deep and the infection had got into your  bloodstream."

But Roz made it clear she felt her husband had given permission to get rid of her arm and went on to discharge herself from hospital while he was away.

Fans flocked to Twitter to share their reaction as one wrote: "So glad DCI Roz Huntley's jammy arm has been amputated, it was making me feel ill every time she peeled the plaster off #LineOfDuty"

The episode then took a further twist when Roz framed her husband for the murders she had been investigating.

She turned the tables on Nick and made it look like he was Balaclava man and had him arrested by her colleagues.

DS Steve Arnott returned to work despite being warned he may never fully recover from the injuries he received in a shocking attempt on his life earlier in the series.

And unknown to Roz, he appeared to be unearthing an conspiracy which dates back to the start of the show as well as leading police to seeing her at a murder suspect.
