Starting life as the sidekick of Matt Smith's Doctor Who, she went on to hit the big time playing Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 - and now she's in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Here's the lowdown on her...
Who is Karen Gillan?
Karen Gillan is a 30-year-old actress from Inverness, Scotland.
Known for her flame red hair, the star landed her first role in a one-off episode of the Ken Stott fronted detective drama Rebus in 2006.
Becoming part of the ensemble cast for two series of the sketch show The Kevin Bishop Show in 2008 and landed the role of the lovable and feisty companion Amy Pond in Doctor Who in 2010.
How long did Karen play Amy Pond in Doctor Who?
Before playing Amy, Karen had a one-off role in Doctor Who as a Soothsayer in episode The Fires of Pompeii, starring opposite David Tennant's Doctor and Catherine Tate.
Peter Capaldi - who would also eventually become a regeneration of the iconic Doctor role himself - also had a role in the episode.
She first appeared as Amelia 'Amy' Pond in The Eleventh Hour in 2010 - the first episode of series five of the rebooted show and also the first episode Matt Smith starred in as eleventh regeneration of The Doctor.
Amy proved to be more than a match when it came to a battle of wits with the Doctor, and together the pair flew the galaxy with her fiance Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) for two seasons.
Both Amy and Rory bowed out on an adventure in Manhattan, where they were caught by the weeping angels and said their final goodbyes to the Doctor in the seventh series.
She was replaced by Clara, played by Jenna Coleman.

Who does Karen Gillan play in Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2?
Karen made her first appearance as Nebula in the first instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, but took on a more prominent role in the latest outing.
She plays Nebula, a cyborg assassin who was one of the Guardians enemies in the first film.
Nebula is the adoptive sister of hero and Guardian Gamora, and ahead of the show's release Karen teased that their relationship would be further explored.
She told Comic Book Resources last year: "I think what I'm really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I think that we're going to see a little bit more of that, and it's going to be a bit more fleshed out."
The film was released in cinemas on Friday, April 28.
What is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle about and when does it come out?
Karen has taken on the role of Ruby Roundhouse in the reboot of Jumanji, and stars alongside Kevin Hart and The Rock in the adventure.
Fans have been angered by photos released that show the actress wearing a skimpy hiking outfit in the jungle, but Dwayne Johnson said her wardrobe would "make sense once you know the plot".
The movie is released in the UK on 20 December 2017.
