Big Brother launch could be DELAYED due to the 2017 General Election on June 8th
BIG Brother fans will be absolutely crushed to learn that the new series launch is likely to be pushed back thanks to the general election.
Prime Minister Theresa May recently announced Thursday June 8 as the day of reckoning, despite the fact this is reportedly the week Channel 5 plan to kick of their most popular programme.
While it's no surprised the inconsiderate Mrs May is not a die-hard fan of the show, the clash means there's likely to be interference with episodes, as news coverage takes precedent at this time of national uncertainty.
It may even be the case that viewers have to wait a whole more week before seeing who's going in to the Borehamwood bungalow.
It's not the first time this catastrophic cock-up has happened.
The same delay to Big Brother happened during the election of 2010 on Wednesday May 5, which propelled David Cameron and Nick Clegg to power.
And the last series of Big Brother in 2016 kicked off on a Thursday, the same day the election is happening this year.
However the day of the week on which a launch falls does tend to vary so it may be the clash poses only a minor problem.
Contestants are usually not allowed to hear news about the outside world once they're inside, so it'd be interesting to see how they'd get on if they remained ignorant of the result the whole time.
Fans of the epic programme, which tends to run for up to eight weeks, still have a reason to be excited though, as co-host Rylan Clark-Neal has said the house's new makeover is "unreal".
“I was there not long ago and the house is so different," Rylan said.
"When we did the second house last year, that was a massive change for us, but I’m totally just disregarding that for the moment because what we’ve done in the main house is absolutely unbelievable. It’s unreal."
The celebrity series earlier this year was won by Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan and the last non-famous person to win the show was Jason Burrill.
Channel 5 declined to comment on their programming plans.
