Amir Khan’s wife Faryal Makhdoom says the boxer has been through the “lowest point” of his life after being estranged from his parents
In an exclusive interview, Faryal says the couple's marriage is as good as ever after she stuck by him following a huge family spat
Amir Khan's wife Faryal Makhdoom has said she has stuck by her husband through the "lowest point" in his life.
Speaking with the boxer at the BT Sports Awards, Faryal insisted their marriage is stronger than ever following her public rift with his parents.
And Amir revealed the difficulty of going from a "good son" to being estranged from his family after leaping to her defence during the spat.
Faryal said: "I think after everything Amir has been through I'm the only one still standing here - no one else is. I don't see some of his friends, I don't see some of his family members.
"So all the people who said his wife's not going to be around and his wife is after his money you know what I'm still here at the lowest point of my husbands life.
"So that makes him realise that she is the one and all the negativity and stuff Amir gets you know what at the end of the day he comes home to me."
Last year Amir's parents moved out of a Bolton home they once shared and said their daughter-in-law was "very evil" because of her un-Islamic dress.
Meanwhile Faryal accused the boxer’s family of “bullying” her in a series of shock Snapchat posts.
She continued: "You know what I think it was something that should have never come out to begin with. I'm a very private person when it comes to family.
"I'm not private about my life - mine and Amir's lives are out there. I like to share what I want to share.
"It is hard because sometimes you can't go back and erase your mistakes. But I felt like it had to be out because I never felt like it could have gotten better. Sometimes it does upset me but that's life."
Amir continued: "It has been difficult but obviously it has made us stronger as a couple. I love my wife and I love my family as well but sometimes you know you have to step back and think about the situation.
"Obviously it was a little bit difficult for me because I've always been a good son to my parents and everything - it was a tough situation to be in. I love my wife and everything she has always been there for me.
"I think the best way for this to work is both parties sit down and hopefully sit down and settle things and speak things out. My wife is happy to do that, it's all just petty stuff really. It was small stuff that just got big."
But Faryal asserted the fierce dispute hasn't made her want to retreat from the public eye and has strengthened her against social media criticism.
She continued: "You know what I don't mind - I think it makes us stronger. There's negativity and positivity - sometimes I get negative you know like things on Instagram and stuff but it makes me stronger.
"It makes me keep doing whatever I'm doing. Obviously because of Amir you know I have my own following and stuff. But boxing - watching my husband is really tough. That's the toughest part."

Being nervous while watching Amir box hasn't put Faryal off letting him teach her boxing.
She said: "I'm really not a sporty girl but I got married to an athlete so I'm very supportive and whatever makes him happy.
"I always come to support so he's really happy seeing other boxers and their friends so it makes me happy. He has taught me to box but at home I think I throw the most punches."
But this doesn't put him off being romantic, as she added: "I think he is more romantic than I am."
While it's unlikely we'll see her on telly in a boxing capacity, Faryal says she has been considering offers and would like to appear on Big Brother in the future.
She revealed: "I have been offered a lot I can't really mention which shows as I did in the past and got in trouble. But yeah I might take the opportunity when I can.
"I would like to do Big Brother one day - maybe not yet as I'm a little girl. But maybe one day."
Having been suggested as a possible entry to the Celebrity Big Brother house this summer Faryal has since revealed she will NOT be joining the show but has thanked producers for the opportunity.
But something she has confirmed will occur is the renewal of her wedding vows with the former Olympic boxer.
She continued: "I think we will do that on our tenth wedding anniversary. We are four years in May so another six years to go."
