What has Gillian Anderson said about playing Margaret Thatcher in The Crown?
Gillian will be playing Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in series four of The Crown.
She was quoted saying: “I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of The Crown and to have the opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman.
“Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.”
She also told The Times: “I don’t think I’ve ever taken on a role that presented so much pressure.
“There are so many very strong and conflicting opinions about her and her policies and the impact that she had, both on the UK and around the world.
“So taking on somebody who is hated as much as Thatcher is, is a whole other thing.”
Gillian will be joined in series four by actress Emma Corrin, who will play Lady Diana Spencer.
