Comic Peter Kay replaces Sylvester Stallone as face of bread giant Warburtons years after joking garlic bread is the future
The comedian has signed a big money deal with the baker
PETER KAY was always baffled by garlic bread – now he’s the face of it.
In Phoenix Nights, the comic declared, “Garlic bread, it’s the future, I’ve tasted it”, which was voted TV’s greatest one-liner.
Now he has signed a big-money deal with baker Warburtons to replace SYLVESTER STALLONE.
It is proving to be a cushty deal for Peter, who hails from Bolton where the company was founded.
A source said: “Peter did the John Smith’s adverts but other than that he’s kept his powder dry.
“But he liked what Warburtons were offering, and given he’s a Bolton boy it felt like a good fit.
“It’s also a very healthy payday.”
He will begin work on the series of ads next week, shooting scenes in Manchester.
In 2015, The Sun revealed how Rocky star Sly had been signed up to make several ads for Warburtons.
One saw him running up the steps of Bolton Town Hall holding a loaf of bread in each hand — a take-off of one of Rocky’s most famous scenes.
He also shot adverts at the firm’s Wakefield factory.
Replacement Peter knows a thing or two about acting, too.
His BBC sitcom Peter Kay’s Car Share, which sees him driving around his local area, is a Bafta-winner, and his turn in Cradle to Grave won him critical acclaim.
While the Warburtons payday for Peter will be welcome, he’s in no need of a handout.
His 2010-11 tour played to a record 1.2million people and he has sold more than ten million DVDs.
Together they have helped make him one of the richest comedians — with a fortune approaching £50million.
I reckon he won’t need to spend a penny of that on bread ever again.

Bella's so tied up
BELLA HADID was well strapped in on her first outing since making a boob of herself promoting the Fyre Festival in the Bahamas, which was axed after a day due to sewage trouble and other issues.
Bella partied with pals CARA DELEVINGNE and KENDALL JENNER in New York on Saturday for rapper TRAVIS SCOTT’s birthday after apologising for the festival farce.
She tweeted: “I feel so sorry and badly because this is something I couldn’t stand by.
“I hope everyone is safe and back with their families and loved ones.”
That's a rough impression, Lily
ORLANDO BLOOM isn’t the only posh star in need of a reality check.
Just days after the A-list actor got in trouble for describing himself as a “pikey”, model LILY COLE has claimed she’s a “rough street kid from London”.
Lily, who has a double-starred first from Cambridge University and went to private school, gave a cringeworthy anecdote to try to prove her working-class credentials.
Responding to a review of her role in West End show The Philanthropist, which described her as “charming in a posh, one-dimensional way”, Lily said: “I was a rough street kid from London.
“When I was 15 we were out really late in a park and somebody tried to steal my friend’s phone.
“So I took my phone, went up to them and told them I was speaking to the police. I got it back.”
She made the comments to Radio Times just days after the BBC apologised for Orlando’s gaffe.
The actor offended the gypsy community by using the word “pikey”on Radio 1.
Orlando said: “I’m still a pikey from Kent. You don’t want to get on the wrong side of me, boy.”
Terrifying.
Pinnokle of fashion
LITTLE MIX won’t have to worry about running out of sexy outfits. LEIGH-ANNE PINNOCK has turned her hand to fashion and she’s no slouch either.
She designed and wore this red leather bra and trouser suit at London’s Beat nightclub on Saturday.
One big fan of the look was JESY NELSON, who was videoed doing seriously dirty dancing with Leigh-Anne.
Jesy looked to be on great form so soon after her messy split from Towie’s Chris Clark.
I revealed her pals fear Chris cooked up their romance as a stunt to get more airtime on the ITVBe show.
No-one will remember him in six months, Jesy is much better off without him.
Split me baby one more time
BRITNEY SPEARS is going from strength to strength.
The singer’s latest gym selfie shows her doing the splits with ease and with a body more toned than when her washboard abs first hit the scene two decades ago.
It’s great to see her back in peak condition.
