Piers Morgan reignites spat with David Beckham as he jokes that the star should get an Oscar for cameo in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur movie
The former footie star has a part in new flick directed by his close pal
PIERS Morgan reignited his criticism of David Beckham and sarcastically insisted he should be granted an Oscar for his cameo in Guy Ritchie's new film.
The Good Morning Britain host quipped the footie legend sounded like "the third Mitchell brother" as he mocked his East End twang after a teaser clip of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was aired on the ITV show.
Piers has been a vocal critic of Brand Beckham and branded the ex-England captain a "fraud" in the aftermath of his leaked email scandal which suggested he was using charity work to land a knighthood - something Beckham denies.
Opening today's programme, Piers, 52, added more fuel to their spat as he squealed: "He could be the third Mitchell brother!" after a clip of Becks' role in King Arthur was shown.
The ex-Manchester United star plays a disgruntled knight and can be seen with a huge scar across his face.
King Arthur, played by Charlie Hannam, quizzes Becks: "Where do you want me?" to which Posh Spice's husband can be heard replying: "Bouncing on my knee. Where do you think I want you?"
He then bluntly instructs the lead character to grip the sword "with both hands".
This line in the script prompted Piers to continue his jibe as he added: "I thought it was a very, very good performance.
"It's Oscar-level excellent."
He added: "Will David Beckham be able to make it in Hollywood? Probably not.
After attempting to imitate Becks, Piers said: "Well done David Beckham, you're a brilliant actor.
"The Oscars are looming."

GMB viewers were quick to pick up on his comments, with one tagging Piers and writing: "David Beckham 'Hollywood star' less wood in my chopping board!"
In the build-up to the film's release, Becks showed off a huge facial scar and rotting teeth for his new role playing a knight.
The handsome star looked almost unrecognisable as he underwent an intense makeover for the bit-part.
His famous good looks were replaced by a jagged, deep scar running from his temple to his cheek.
Showing off his new teeth, David snarled away from the camera, clearly impressed with the more gruesome look.
He captioned the shot: "Rough day at the office @kingarthurmovie @guyritchie."
According to reports, the star plays a disgruntled knight who is unable to pull Excalibur from the stone.
His character is named as Blackleg Leader on some film sites including IMDB.com but further details of his role have been kept under wraps.
Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law co-star in the film as Ritchie recreates the classic tale for Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.
But Becks previously admitted he's expecting criticism over the role.
“I am very aware that many sportsmen and other celebrities have turned their hand to acting and failed,” he told .
“I know that it is a tough profession, where you need a huge amount of skill and discipline, and I wouldn’t want to push myself forward too soon, without learning more about it, and doing a lot more practice."
He added of the new role: “I had 13 lines and practised a huge amount beforehand. Guy had someone come and rehearse with me, and I did that an hour every day in the build-up.”
