Alan Carr hits out at ‘disgusting’ individuals that hurled transphobic abuse at LGBT Award winner Caitlyn Jenner
The comedian opened up about Friday night's alleged hate crime while on the 2017 TV Bafta red carpet
ALAN Carr has revealed Caitlyn Jenner was left shaking after she endured transphobic abuse outside the British LGBT Awards in London on Friday night.
The 40-year-old comedian was presenting the awards at the Grand Connaught Rooms and was disgusted when 67-year-old Caitlyn was verbally attacked.
“Caitlyn was so shook up after it. It was absolutely horrible! They had to call the police,” Alan told The Sun Online on the red carpet of the 2017 TV Bafta's in London on Sunday.
“I know it's not my fault but I was hosting the event and for Caitlyn to get that abuse...it's awful,” he said.
“It's not like she'd just turned up to a working men's club or a shopping centre. It was an LGBT event which is full of open minded people,” the TV star said.
Alan was distraught for Cait after they spent the evening laughing together at the LGBT awards – which are designed to celebrate individuals and organisations that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the LGBT community.
“She's so lovely in real life, she's just really normal - I sat next to her and we had a good laugh and a giggle,” Alan said.
“It's disgusting that someone can get transphobic abuse at an LGBT event it shows just how far we have to go,” he added.
On Saturday, police confirmed to The Sun Online that they were investigating allegations of a hate crime following the LGBT Awards.
A spokesperson confirmed to The Sun Online that no arrests had been made. Their enquiries into what happened on the night are still on-going.
Caitlyn was left shaken following the shocking incident at the glamorous bash which was also attended by Katie Price, Jade Thirlwall and Alesha Dixon.
It put a cloud over the evening where the 67-year-old had just hours before collected her Loud and Proud award.
A source told The Sun Online: “Caitlyn had an amazing night and when she won her award the room went crazy.
“She’d had such a wonderful time but as she went to leave the whole atmosphere changed.
“Someone shouted to her, ‘Oi, Bruce, get your d**k’ out. Then someone else threw something at her. It was horrible.”
The vile abuse – most of which is too rude for publication – continued until Caitlyn was driven away.
Our eyewitness added: “Caitlyn kept her cool though and walked to her limo with her head down and security bundled her into the car but she looked terrified.”
