Radio 1 Big Weekend WILL go ahead as organisers ramp up security measures to keep 50,000 music fans safe
RADIO 1’s Big Weekend will go ahead this weekend, despite fears it could be cancelled following the Manchester terror attack.
Sources confirmed to The Sun Online that none of the acts signed up to perform at the annual festival – including Little Mix, Katy Perry and The Kings of Leon – have dropped out and that the BBC are working their hardest to make the event the best yet.
An insider told The Sun Online: “The show will go on. All the acts are ready and raring to get on stage and give the performance of a lifetime.
“The BBC have taken the terror threat incredibly seriously and are working closely with the police.
“Security has been increased and everything is being reviewed to make sure the event is watertight.”

While the BBC haven’t spoken about the speculation, they released a statement to confirm all ticket holders would be searched twice before entering fulling a full review of the event's policy.
A spokesperson told The Sun Online: “Radio 1’s Big Weekend will be continuing as planned this weekend in Hull.
“After conducting a full review of the festival, in conjunction with the police and partners, various extra security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of those attending.
“As part of this, everyone that enters the site will go through two rounds of thorough searches – one round conducted at transport hubs where police will be present, and a second round of security procedures at the entrance gates.
“We ask for the patience and cooperation of anyone coming to the event on the weekend and that they allow extra time to pass through security.”
This year’s Big Weekend is being held in Hull’s Burton Constable Hall and starts on May 27.
The two day music extravaganza will include performances from some of the biggest names in music, including Lorde, Stormzy, The Chainsmokers, Clean Bandit and James Arthur.
Radio One have been holding a Big Weekend every year since 2003.
It follows their annual One Big Sunday, where every Sunday during July and August, a different town would host the roadshow, usually next to a beach or in a large park.
