The Rock hits back at bad Baywatch reviews
The new film, a reboot of the 90s classic, has been critically panned worldwide for its crass humour
DWAYNE ‘The Rock’ Johnson has hit back at critics who have panned his new movie, Baywatch.
The new film, in which the 45-year-old Hollywood heavyweight stars opposite Zac Efron in a recreation of the 90s classic, has received a string of negative reviews by critics.
At the time of writing, Baywatch currently has an abysmal 19% rating on aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes – taking into account over 131 reviews across the world.
Now the actor has jumped to the defence of the movie, where he takes over David Hasselhoff’s character from the original flick.
Venting his frustrations over the score on Twitter, he wrote: “Yay positive upticks. Fans LOVE the movie. Critics HATE it. What a glaring disconnect. People just want to laugh & have fun.”
He later added: “Oh boy, critics had their venom & knives ready. Fans LOVE the movie. Huge positive scores. Big disconnect w/ critics & people. ”
To further drive his point home, he then responded to a reviewer that wrote online: “As a critic i call out other critics and tell you why the and are worth your time.”

The Rock responded: “Bold move from this critic who watched w/ other critics who laughed their ass off, but then they decide to trash it publicly.”
The Baywatch movie - a reboot of the classic show that starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson - hit cinemas across the UK on May 29.
It follows lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne) who trains newbie Matt Brody (Zac Efron) - a former Olympian who is too big for his boots but whose heart is in the right place.
But the pair are forced to work together to tackle an influx of drugs and crime affecting their beloved beach, and must outsmart the baddie (Priyanka Chopra) before her plan to expand her business gets the green light.
In a world exclusive for The Sun Online, we shared a cringeworthy scene that saw Zac, Dwayne and stunning newcomer Alexandra Daddario head to the hospital to hunt for clues in a murder case.
Trading in red bathing shorts for scrubs – confused Matt starts to panic when the trio’s investigation sends them to a MORGUE.
As Summer Quinn keeps a look out, the two lifeguards get to work looking for clues on the body – in some VERY private areas of the murder victim.
