FOUR potential housemates have been fighting all night for their place in the Big Brother house - and the public have chosen Tom to be their people's champion.

Welsh lad Tom has been given the task of being the eyes and ears of the general public and will have direct communication of the outside world to get information on his other housemates.

The 21-year-old nightclub co-owner is from Swansea, and slammed his fellow candidates before putting himself forward as the best person to be the insider.

He said: "They're trying too hard - they all need to take a chill pill. Just chill out like!"

The new housemate will now act as the eyes and ears of the public with direct contact with the outside world

Once he arrived in the house, contestants were gathered on the sofa to be told what his purpose was in the house.

As he stood at the foot of the stairs, Big Brother announced: "As you know the people's housemate will hold great power over the Big Brother house - but this is no normal power. This is people power.

"Tom will have regular contact with the great British public who will assist him in making some very important decisions that will effect each and every one of you."

They then told Tom: "Your first decision will take place tonight. Currently you are all Big Brother citizens, safely residing with the Big Brother village. Shortly however, tom will have his first contact with the outside world.

"When he returns, half of you will have your citizenship revoked. This not only means that you will be exiled to the fringes of Big Brother society, but you will also be at risk of eviction this week. "

Tom beat out Andrew from Glasgow, Simone from Teeside and Sue from Bedfordshire to get the sought-after spot among this year's housemates - which include six previous reality stars.

Hyperactive hairdresser Andrew was nearly in tears as he was announced in second place.

The four housemates were given an opportunity to put forward their 'manifesto' in the show

When he was previously given the chance to plead his case, he said: "I'm fresh and I'm an old soul. I see things differently and I feel things differently. I'm so passionate- please just get me in there! Vote vote vote!"

He was jumping up and down for joy when Rylan revealed to him that BB legend Nikki Grahame had given him her support on Twitter.

But he was ultimately left devastated after coming runner-up to Tom in the public vote.

Simone told the voting public that she loves a drink or two and thinks she'd get on well with one of the housemates who has OCD - because she has the same issue.

The bubbly candidate then declared: "I'm so unpredictable but my words cant even justify my own actions."

She then added: "I’ve been in stressful places. I’m understanding. Get me in there man!"

Ahead of entering the house, she said: "I'm not sure about the woman who slept with her colleague. I'm not sure about that, I'd like to know more"

Calling herself "mature and multicultural", she promised to "deliver the goods" when it comes to bringing fun to the house.

When Rylan asked her if she's going to stir the pot, she declared: "I'm gonna stir, cook and serve!"

Sue came in third in the public vote.

Also in the show, Emma Willis was forced to apologise for housemates' swearing just 13 MINUTES into tonight's launch.

And former Ex on the Beach star Chanelle shocked the host when she nearly flashed her underwear and made a VERY X-rated comment about her privates.
