Phil Collins rushed to hospital after gashing his head in horror fall forcing him to cancel London shows

SUPERSTAR Phil Collins has been rushed to hospital after a horror fall on the way to the toilet last night and has been forced to cancel his London shows.

The Sun's Bizarre column can reveal the frail singer, 66, tripped over a step in his bedroom at his London hotel following his concert and badly gashed his forehead.

Ambulances immediately dashed him to a London hospital for treatment and is believed to require surgery on his forehead.

It comes after he has been performing with a cane and sitting down throughout his gigs this week at the Royal Albert Hall. He has been forced to cancel the rest of his gigs in the capital.

A source said: “Phil is in a bad way with his head in bandages. He is conscious and talking, but he is frustrated and upset about having to cancel in his gigs.

“He is keen to get out performing again as soon as possible, but the fall was quite nasty and he needs time to heal and rest up. He is struggling with his limited mobility as he has loved being on stage these past few days."

A spokesman has confirmed the news, saying the In The Air Tonight singer remains in hospital.

A statement released to Bizarre says: "We unfortunately have to announce that Phil Collins’ performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London will be postponed tonight (June 8) and tomorrow (June 9).

"Phil suffers from ‘drop foot’ as a result of a back operation which makes it difficult to walk.

"He rose in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and slipped in his hotel room, hitting his head in the fall on a chair.

"He was taken to hospital where he had stitches for a severe gash on his head close to his eye and is recovering well. He will be kept under observation for 24 hours.

"Phil sends his sincere apologies and thanks to fans. He has had a fantastic week at his first shows in 10 years, cannot thank people enough for their warm reaction and is excited to return."

"These Royal Albert Hall shows will be rearranged for November 26 and 27 this year.  All tickets for June 8 will be valid for November 26 and tickets for June 9 will be valid for November 27.

"He will carry on with this tour on Sunday in Cologne and then Paris before returning to London for his headline performance and BST Hyde Park on June 30th."

The horror accident is the latest in a long line of health troubles for the ex-Genesis legend.

Phil who had a back operation two years ago, has been using a walking stick since he had major surgery on his back in 2015. He has spent evenings on stage this week seated or leaning against the piano.

The star announced his retirement in 2011 after nerve damage left him unable to play the drums.

But he revealed last year that he planned to go back on tour.

He had hoped to be back on his feet for the shows, as he returned to the stage for the first time since reuniting with his Genesis bandmates in 2007.

In an interview he said he woke up one morning and could not move his right foot. He said: "I had an MRI scan and my back and hips were shot. The doctor had to work on the sciatic nerve, take my back apart and unscramble the mess."

The fall comes as Phil admitted earlier this year that he is back drinking alcohol again after previously saying it was killing him.

He insists he can now control his boozing and is capable of enjoying "a couple of glasses of wine". The Against All Odds singer said in a US interview: "I didn't drink for three years.

"I personally do not believe I was an alcoholic. I had a problem with alcohol. I didn't have anything else to do, and I enjoyed it.

"But when I had to stop because it was killing me, I stopped."

Phil was admitted to hospital in 2012 at the height of his boozing, prompting fears for his well-being.
