Love Island’s Amber Davies turned down a leading role in West End production of Hairspray as her parents reveal TV bosses were ‘desperate’ for her to sign up
Welsh beauty was forced to choose between her dreams of treading the boards…or having sex on TV
AMBER Davies’ parents have revealed she turned down a starring role in the West End production of Hairspray to take part in Love Island.
Susan and Hefin told The Sun Online TV bosses begged the 20-year-old to take part in the dating show after she had initially turned them down.
Hefin said: “She wasn’t going to do Love Island.
“She’d made her decision and had been offered a contract on the West End with Hairspray. She really had to think hard about it.
“But she loves reality TV. We all watched the final of Love Island last year together and she joked ‘I’m going to apply for that next year’.
“We all laughed along but here she is. It’s been the biggest decision of her life.”
Although Susan and Hefin are supportive of Amber’s decision to join the sexy dating show, they admit they were scared it could damage her career.

Susan explained: “Initially we were worried it would portray her as something that she isn’t.
“We were worried that the show would damage her career in some way.
“When she initially turned down Love Island, the producers called her back, desperate for her to come on the show. I think deep down it was what she really wanted.”
Yesterday, Susan revealed she was proud of everything Amber had achieved on the ITV2 show and insisted she wasn’t fazed about her daughter being the first contestant to have sex on screen.
When asked about the romp, psychiatric nurse Susan insisted: “I’m cool with it. She’s an adult at the end of the day and we don’t have to watch it.
“OK no-one wants to see their children up to that sort of thing but let’s face it, it happens.”
