Who is Chaka Khan and why is she famous? What are her biggest hits?

Chaka Khan - born Yvette Marie Stevens - is a 64-year-old singer-songwriter from Chicago, USA.

Widely recognised as the Queen of Funk, Chaka's career has so far spanned five decades since beginning as the frontwoman of disco band Rufus in the 1970s.

Her most famous hits include I'm Every Woman, Ain't Nobody and I Feel For You.

Chaka was good friend's with Aretha Franklin and performed at her funeral in 2018.

Who has covered Chaka Khan's songs?

The most famous cover is Whitney Houston's 1993 take on I'm Every Woman which made a whole new generation of R&B fans fall in love with Chaka Khan.

Whitney's version was part of The Bodyguard soundtrack and Chaka Khan makes a cameo appearance in the music video.

British pop group Liberty X covered Ain't Nobody in 2003, the track reached the Top 3 of the UK chart.

Why did Chaka Khan enter rehab?

Chaka Khan reportedly entered rehab in 2016 to battle an addiction to prescription drugs.

In a statement at the time, she said: "Unfortunately, I will miss concert appearances over the summer.

"However, it's vital that I put my health and well-being first. I know that I am disappointing some of my fans, but I also know they would want me to recover and be well and healthy."

She'd previously spoken out about her battle with drug abuse and: "I snorted heroin for a good 10 years and I did cocaine, but I never injected."
