ScotSoul crowned winners of the second heat of BBC One’s Pitch Battle by Chaka Khan – but viewers are not happy about it
THE second episode of Pitch Battle sparked a controversial climax as Scottish group ScotSoul were crowned winners.
The group successfully chased off all-male a cappella group Out Of The Blue in the first round of the night on the BBC One singing contest.
They then selected Natalie from their group to take lead vocals for the solo battle where she sang a rendition of Clown by Emeli Sande.
The solo rounds secured the Loch Lomond based team and international travelling male group The Flyboys through to the final round – while London based group Soul Train were sent home.
But in a final sing off it was ScotSoul who were crowned winner by Chaka Khan when she joined them for a rendition of her iconic tune Ain’t Nobody.
Clearly ecstatic, the group were overwhelmed as they realised they would be performing with Chaka again in the live final later this summer.
However fans of the show were not impressed by the final decision of the second episode.
“#PitchBattle @TheFlyBoys1 Wrong choice, Chaka, wrong choice,” tweeted one fan who disagreed with the outcome.
“Really thought @soultraingroup should have gone through #PitchBattle,” suggested another.
“Well @BBC #PitchBattle you got tonight’s winners totally wrong. FLYBOYS,” raged another fan.
“What just happened @flyboys so should have gone through @BBCPitchBattle #PitchBattle @BBCOne 😢,” another disappointed viewer wrote.
“Watching #PitchBattle on BBC. Gutted for Soul Train. The girl lead singer was amazing!” said another of the group that came third.
Fans of Flyboys could still see them in the live final.
One group from throughout the series will be selected by the judges to advance to the finals as a wild card.
The first round was won by The Leeds Contemporary Singers – who were championed by episode one guest judge Will Young.
