Love Island’s former stars claim lie detector test is FAKE and set up by producers
LOVE Island's former stars have branded the show's lie detector test FAKE after it sparked major drama in the villa last night.
Ex islander Alex Bowen called the lie detector test "as real as my new teeth" while Kady McDermott described it "as a load of crap" and alleged answers are decided by producers.
The lie detector test episode is a firm favourite among viewers as the show's cast are made to squirm in the spotlight while their other halves ask intimate questions as they're hooked up to a testing machine.
On Tuesday night's episode, it caused plenty of drama when Gabby Allen confessed she wasn't in love with boyfriend Marcel Somerville - and the test revealed that was the truth.
Camilla Thurlow, meanwhile, claimed she was compatible with partner Jamie Jewitt, but the test revealed she was lying.
However, ex-islander Alex pointed out he failed his lie detector test in last year's show, when asked if he saw a future with girlfriend Olivia Buckland, and now they're engaged.
Recalling his own test, Alex tweeted: "Do you see a future with Olivia? I said yes, the m********** went red and said I lied. Now I'm getting married.
"The lie detector test is about as real as my new teeth.
"We thought it was real last year. Then on the show they said it's 90% real, no 80%, no 70%. Actually, it's a laugh. They got me good."
Kady also viewed the lie detector test with scepticism and when asked by Geordie Shore star Nathan Henry if the test is "accurate", she replied: "It's a load of crap basically lol."
She also tweeted: "Oh the day where the producers chose who fail and pass, I loved that day last year, not! #biased [sic]."
FROM THE VILLA
Emma-Jane Woodhams, meanwhile, took a similar stance to Kady and tweeted: "Looks like Love Island are mugging off all their islanders again with another fake lie detector. They tell you in there its' 100% real."
And Malin Andersson simply said: "The lie detector doesn't work."
Cara de la Hoyde, who won Love Island 2016 with Nathan Massey and is now expecting his baby, although they have since split, agreed with her co-stars.
"It's a fabricated test to provide entertainment," she tweeted.
"Last year [Alex Bowen's] machine fell off half way through and I had to stick it back on him."
Alex's fiancée Olivia Buckland took a slightly different view and suggested the lie detector system was "legit" but the islanders' nerves could affect the results.
"Guys guys guys haha. The actual lie detector system is LEGIT but the islanders will just all be sh**ing their panties & it's nerve rackin!" she tweeted.
"Because it measures breathing, pulse, sweat. If you have anxiety or are nervous or agitated it will suggest a lie, but may not be one."
Olivia added: "A little reminder to go easy on the Islanders if they fail a question it doesn't mean they are lying & are horrendous humans."
A rep for Love Island told The Sun Online that the lie detector test and its results are "completely genuine."
