Former Love Island star Kady McDermott reveals the secret to a successful relationship after the villa – ‘turn your phones off’
The beauty from last year's series is still together with Scott Thomas, who she met in the villa
LOVE Island star Kady McDermott has told the current islanders the secret to a successful relationship after the show is switching phones off.
She warned those in the current series their lives are about to change drastically with their new found fame.
Kady, 21, is still with Scott Thomas, 28, after meeting on last year’s series, overcoming a tumultuous relationship in the villa and her self-proclaimed "fiery" nature.
She told the Sun’s Bizarre column her social media following rocketed from 1,000, before she went in to the villa, to 600,000, when she came out.
Kady said: “When we first came out, especially the first three months, we were living out of suitcases. We were doing PAs, travelling and obviously we were on our phones the whole time.
“It’s important just to make sure you do have an hour to yourselves, with your phone turned off. When we were on dates, if we went to Nando’s, we’d turn our phones off.
“Because if not we’d just forget to communicate and that’s what happened at first.”
Kady and Scott are one of three couples – Alex Bowen, 25, and Olivia Buckland, 23, and Rykard Jenkins, 26, and Rachel Fenton, 24 – who are still together from the previous series.
She says finalists Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies, Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood, Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt and Marcel Somerville and Gabby Allen are in for a huge shock when they come out of the villa in this evening’s final.
MORE FROM THE VILLA
Kady said: “Your lives are social media and you’re reading stuff all the time.
“So it’s really important to step away from social media and have some one-on-one time.
“I think it was Scott’s dad who told us ‘you need to turn your phones off’. It does help you.
“When I first went in I had 1,000 followers, if that. I came out with 600,000 – everyone wanted to know what I was doing for every second of my life. I’m from a village where it’s so normal, and when I came out it was so much to take.
“This year they know what to expect from how big it was last year. We didn’t know how big it was going to be.”
