LOVE Island could be back on TV in January following its huge success this summer.
ITV bosses are planning a new series to rival Big Brother this winter – and they’ve already got a team looking for a suitable location, according to the .
Scouts are reportedly looking in Tenerife rather than Mallorca, because it would be too cold there at that time of year.
ITV has however since denied the claims there will be another series this January.
The Daily Star reported that the show would start a few weeks after I’m A Celebrity ends – meaning it would launch at the same time as January’s Celebrity Big Brother.
This series of Love Island has completely overtaken Big Brother in terms of ratings and according to reports, bosses think it could even beat the celebrity version.
A source told the paper: “The public have shown they can’t get enough of Love Island and this year has been the show’s ‘watercooler moment’.
“ITV is really keen to exploit the massive momentum it’s got at the minute and bosses are thinking really big all the time.”
The insider added: “Producers smell blood. They reckon Big Brother has had its day and one more smash-hit series of their show at the same time would push it over the edge.
“There’s a new king of reality TV in town and we know it.”
Earlier this month The Sun revealed that bosses are also planning an autumn spin-off with this year’s couples – to see how they are getting on back home.
A source said: “Some relationships will be nothing more than a summer holiday romance but there’s some that are going to last a lot longer.
MORE FROM THE VILLA
“Each of the couples have already been pushed to the limits in a very false environment and once they’re back home, they will have more time to themselves away from the camera.
“There are already discussions behind the scenes as to doing a follow-up series later this year where viewers can see if islanders have stayed together at home – and whether they’re following in the footsteps of last year’s couples like Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen.
“It’s a no brainer for Love Island bosses to do a follow-up as the show has been a runaway success and everyone’s desperate to see more of their favourite couples.”
Meanwhile the show’s creator has already said he wants to do a gay version of the show.
Richard Cowles, 49, said it was hard to mix people of different sexualities – because Love Island needs everyone to be coupled up – but teased a spin-off version of the show.
Speaking to , Mr Love Island said: “I would like to see what a gay version of the show would be but trying to mix the two would be difficult.
“You are trying to create couples. It is not impossible and it is not something that we shy away from . . . but there is a logistical element which makes it difficult.”
