Who is Shaun Williamson? Barry from EastEnders, Celebrity Big Brother 2017 star and Extras actor

WE fell in love with Shaun Williamson for his performances as Barry Evans in EastEnders.

The soap star also played a hilarious satirical version of himself in Ricky Gervais' hit Extras, and went into the Celebrity Big Brother house. Here's his story...

Who is Shaun Williamson?

Shaun Williamson is a 52-year-old actor, whose biggest role was on EastEnders.

He is also a singer, occasional presenter and all-round media personality.

As well as playing the hapless Barry Evans on the BBC one soap, Barry is known for playing a satirical version of himself on Extras alongside Ricky Gervais.

The actor also appeared in panto on numerous occasions – including Cinderella, Robin Hood and Aladdin.

He has had bit parts on Inspector Morse, The Bill and Plebs, to name a few.

In early 2017 he appeared in Casualty and delighted fans when he was fired from a cannon as part of his storyline.

Shaun has been married to Melanie since 1997 and the couple have two children, Sophie and Joseph.

He met his wife while they were both taking part in an amateur dramatics production.

When did Shaun Williamson play Barry Evans in EastEnders?

Shaun played Barry on EastEnders between 1994 and 2004.

He was a hugely popular character, who was known for being a bit of a ‘buffoon’.

Shaun’s time on the show ended when his character was killed off – after he was pushed off a cliff by Janine Butcher, played by Charlie Brooks.

He has said that he took part in Celebrity Big Brother to try to shake Barry off and kickstart his acting career.

Members of the public were pranked by Channel 4 who created a clip that showed Shaun seen singing his heart out to classic song Something Inside So Strong in front of the new First Family.

The jokes don’t end there are the caption on the screen reads: “Barry appears on British documentary ‘Eastenders’”.

The fake video, which went viral, was made from a clip of Shaun singing at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in Great Yarmouth in 2014.
