Tom Cruise runs across an airfield and pilots a helicopter as he trains for Top Gun 2 in Oxfordshire
TOM Cruise is taking preparation for the sequel of 80's classic Top Gun very seriously, with the star pictured training in a helicopter today.
The action star, 55, is famously committed to doing his own stunts and he looked to be a dab hand behind the controls of the chopper as it rose into the air above Oxfordshire.
He wasn't in the mood to hang around, running across the airfield in a white T-shirt, Ray Bans and dark trousers.
The actor embraced a male pal and strode with purpose as he made his way past firefighters on site.
His look was reminiscent of one of the scenes from the original 1986 film opposite Kelly McGillis.
The Hollywood heartthrob announced the film was getting the go ahead back in May.
Speaking on Australia’s Sunrise about whether remake rumours were correct, the actor couldn’t hide his smile as he said: “It’s true.”
As the host pushed for more details, he teased: “You know what? I’m going to start filming it probably next year.”
The star even seemed to appreciate how big his announcement was as he admitted: “You’re the first people I’ve said this to.”
“You asked me, and so I’m telling you it is going to happen.”
Tom made his official leap into Hollywood stardom thanks to his role as cocky aspiring pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the classic film.

The film saw his character fall in love with beautiful instructor, Charlie Blackwood, played by Kelly McGillis.
Rumours of a remake first spread back in 2008 as it was reported movie bosses were keen to resurrect the 1986 flick.
An source told The Sun at the time: “The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor – and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.”
