7 reasons Shaun Williamson is an absolute legend beyond being Barry from Eastenders
The star has never quite been able to shake off his legendary East End character - but here's some other amazing things he's done
POOR Shaun Williamson - despite his character being killed off in 2004, he just can't seem to get rid of being Barry from Eastenders.
Here's some of the amazing moments of his career so far - and how he's a legend beyond being Barry.
When Barry knew how to apologise to his girlfriend, Natalie
Shaun’s Eastenders character Barry was not the best husband or boyfriend – and first wife Natalie definitely had her patience tested with the bumbling but lovable idiot.
However, in one hilarious move, after a present of sexy lingerie left Natalie less than happy, he corrected his mistake in the best way possible – by putting it on himself.
After a day of arguments, the loved-up pair were seen bursting into fits of laughter together as he tried to lure her into bed in the get up, and their romance survived another day.
The move proved that Shaun was game for a laugh - even at his own expense.
When his death in Eastenders was heartbreaking – but epically Barry
When Barry was eventually murdered after ten years on the soap, we knew it was going to be a tearjerker.
The salesman got his heart broken by his evil wife Janine Butcher and it was horrible to watch – especially after she rips his whole character apart, and he wants to be with her anyway.
Shoving him off the side of a hill, the bumbling character meets his maker after smashing his head on a rock- and was left helpless as he looked on at his wife who was waiting for him to die.
But while the scene was a tearjerker, the moment has been taken by the internet and made into a joke as the fumbling character was seen rolling down the hill – which is an apt end for poor old Baz.
The moment proved that the star has some severe acting chops, and can handle dramatic stories (almost) seamlessly.
When Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant only called him “Barry from Eastenders”
After leaving the soap to pursue different things, Shaun just couldn’t seem to shake being Barry from Eastenders – and in the end joined in on the joke.
Joining the cast of Ricky Gervais sitcom Extras, Shaun was seen playing a clutzy version of himself as an actor struggling to get work.
Becoming a devoted dogsbody for Stephen Merchant’s useless talent agent (and part-time Carphone Warehouse employee) Darren Lamb, he was reduced to just being called “Barry from Eastenders” to all who knew him.
Even though he kept reassuring his name was in fact Shaun, no one would hear any of it.
As a result of the highly successful series – which ran from 2005 to 2007 – he was never seen as anything other than that name again.
When he proved to have some serious dance moves
While filming Extras, Shaun joined in on a series of hilarious skits that saw him and the cast perform for the camera.
While they never quite made the series, they certainly made for great DVD extras – and in one amazing skit, he was seen donning his 80s garb for a dance off with Stephen Merchant.
Taking the moment perfectly seriously, Shaun manages to keep a straight face as he does his best dance moves – and proves to be surprisingly limber.
Maybe Strictly can be his next career move?
When he wasn’t famous enough for Celebrity Big Brother
Poor Shaun has been a fan of the show and a long-time participant on spin-off show BOTS way before he actually entered CBB.
He even appeared on a 2012 trailer for that year’s series of the show – where he seen crying at a doorway as he was branded “not famous enough" to enter.
However, five years later and bosses have changed their tune – and in August 2017, he became the first housemate to enter the summer series of the house.
Though, as is tradition, it didn’t go off seamlessly and after being given a secret task involving an earpiece, he struggled to hear what he was being told.
When he performed at President Trump’s inauguration (…kind of)
Fans of Shaun were shocked when a video of him “performing at President Trump’s inauguration” started circulating online.
Belting out classic hit Something Inside So Strong, those who didn’t already know were quickly clued in to the fact that he had a belting set of pipes.
Eastenders actor Jake Wood – who is currently playing Max Branning on the soap – is responsible for bringing the story to the public eye on Twitter as a joke, and naturally it quickly went viral.
It turns he was just singing at the World Bowl’s Championship in 2014 and the video was doctored. Awkward.
When he was fired from a cannon in Casualty
Proving he really has more strings to his bow than you think, Casualty viewers were left in hysterics when he appeared on the show as a HUMAN CANNONBALL.
Naturally, that’s also how he ends up in the A+E department after the stunt goes wrong – but those watching at home absolutely loved it.
