ITV show Benidorm set for stage debut as creator pens a theatre script — as lucrative deals ‘are offered to stars’
AFTER ten years, popular ITV sitcom Benidorm is going to brighten up our lives even more – by coming to the stage.
The show’s creator, writer Derren Litten, has started work on a script for a theatre version of the holiday resort show.
A stage source said: “It’s going to be more outrageous and funny than the TV show.
“Casting has already begun and a few of the telly stars have already shown an interest.
“With the show’s popularity at a peak, it’s definitely the right time to do it.”
It’s uncertain yet whether regulars Sherrie Hewson, who plays Solana hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage, and Jake Canuso, who plays barman Mateo Castellanos, will sign up for the project, but lucrative offers are on the table.
A Benidorm spokesperson confirmed: “Derren Litten is in the early stages of writing a stage version of his hit ITV series.
“Details will be confirmed at a later date.”
With Derren also having previous success as a co-writer on The Catherine Tate Show, this is set to be a hit.
