Poldark and Victoria producers reveal they’re working on a new version of Pride And Prejudice for ITV
THE brains behind ITV hit shows Poldark and Victoria are taking on a new series of Pride And Prejudice for ITV.
The BBC have previously made five adaptations of Jane Austen’s famous novel for the screen – meaning this version will have a lot to live up to.
However Damien Timmer, Managing Director of Mammoth Screen who produce Poldark and Victoria is confident they could have a hit on their hands.
He told : “In this age of the box set - with audiences loving to binge on complex, serialised dramas - it feels absolutely right to reassess the great classics.
“Every generation needs its own adaptation of this perfect novel.
“Nina Raine is one of the most gifted writers working today, and her wit and emotional intelligence make her the perfect match for Jane Austen.
“She’s a devoted fan of the book, but she’s never seen any previous adaptations – so pleasingly the novel only exists in her imagination.”
No release date or cast have been confirmed as of yet but it’s thought the series will air in 2020.
Fans of Poldark who are in mourning after the series ended last night now have the second season of Victoria – which stars Jenna Coleman – to look forward to.
The second series is set to pick up six weeks after the first series ended, with Queen Victoria adjusting to life as a new mother.
Being the first reigning monarch to marry and give birth while on the throne, viewers will be given an insight into how Victoria juggled the different parts of her life.
Meanwhile, Prince Albert is still struggling to find a role for himself alongside his powerful wife as she returns to her duties.
