Katy Perry’s Swish Swish video seems to confirm it IS about Taylor Swift feud – as it contains a VERY sly dig at star
THE music video for Katy Perry's latest single Swish Swish proves the song is DEFINITELY about Taylor Swift.
The proof rushes by so quickly you might have missed it - and it's all to do with the mascots at the basketball game in the Space Jam inspired video.
Avid Katy Perry fans will be all too aware of her long-running feud with fellow popstar Taylor Swift.
Taylor penned hit song Bad Blood about Katy after the Roar singer reportedly poached dancers from Taylor's tour to work with her instead.
Katy responded to Taylor's diss with the tweet: "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing..."
The tweet went massively viral, and now the image is immortalised in video Swish Swish, which sees Katy battle it out with rival basketball team "The Sheep".
The Sheep mascot is, you guessed it, a wolf in sheep's clothing, hinting at Taylor perhaps not being as nice as she'd like people to think she is.
And when you take a closer look at the video, the whole concept is about Katy coming for Taylor's crown.
Katy's team are The Tigers - an image which is strongly linked to Katy's brand as she has used tiger imagery in some of her most iconic performances.
She famously rode a tiger during her performance of Roar at the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show, and tigers and cats have cropped up in music videos and other performances too.
So watching The Tigers beat The Sheep in the music video is essentially a nod to the fact that if you come after Katy, she is going to have something to say about it.
CATFIGHTS AND SPOTLIGHTS The 7 biggest pop star feuds EVER – from Elton John Vs Madonna, to Taylor Swift Vs Katy Perry
During the first half of the video it looks like The Sheep have got Katy's team thoroughly beat.
They have huge muscular players, an ace coach in the form of Terry Crews, and are scoring points left right and centre.
But after a motivational speech from Nicki Minaj Katy's Tigers are ready to kick some Sheep butt.
And perhaps in another nod to Taylor, Nicki's wearing a gorgeous futuristic corset that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Bad Blood video.
Fans had long speculated the song was designed as a rebuttal to Bad Blood as it seemed to reference a sly enemy who had been rude about her.
Katy calls the target of the song "calculating", and promises karma will come back around for the unnamed enemy - now confirmed to be Taylor.
Though in case fans were worrying the feud was taking up too much of Katy's time now she's released a song all about it, she also points out: "A tiger don't lose no sleep, don't need opinions...", so Taylor's opinion clearly doesn't bother her that much.
As Katy and The Tigers celebrate their win it's clear what the message of the whole song is.
Taylor can say what she likes about Katy - but the Teenage Dream singer is going to be successful regardless.
We're sure Taylor would love to pen another rebuttal - and we might be able to expect one on her upcoming album Reputation.
But based on this video, it might be ill-advised.
After all, the fifth line in Katy's song is: "Don't you come for me"...
