RICHARD Madeley left a Good Morning Britain guest looking furious today when he asked if he was Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane.
Stein Connelly from Traffic Scotland was being interviewed by correspondent Juliet Dunlop about the South Queensferry Bridge when Richard dropped his ultimate clanger.
As the segment finished Richard asked: “I didn’t know Robbie Coltrane had changed career!
“Can we cut back? That’s Robbie Coltrane’s brother at least!"
“Is there another Cracker coming?” joked Ranvir Singh. “Ask him!”
However as the camera cut back to Mr. Connelly he looked less than impressed, and stood there silently, ignoring the presenters’ quips.
After a few seconds it became clear that he was not going to comment on being a lookalike of Hagrid from Harry Potter, so Ranvir was left to fill the dead air.
“No. he’s deadpan, deadpan!” she said.
Despite insulting the guest, in true Madeley style, Richard refused to back down.
He said: “You know what I mean – he did look like him!”
And viewers thought the gaffe was hilarious.
One said: “Great to see Richard Madeley back on live TV. I don't know why it doesn't happen more often...oh right, that's why #GMB #Madeley #Coltrane”
Another exclaimed: “Richard Madeley on #GoodMorningBritain is GOLD.”
Someone else pointed out: “This fella from Traffic Scotland seemed to really enjoy his banter. #GMB #RobbieColtrane”
A fourth quipped: “#GMB.robbie Coltranes brother.not liking that was he.😤😤”
One astute viewer declared: “Richard Madeley is slowly turning into Alan Partridge... #GMB”
However not everyone was happy with Richard, with one person pointing out: “Openly mocking a guest on @GMB! Pathetic, amateurish & insulting presenting! #GMB”
