Who is RJ Mitte, Breaking Bad star who quit Celebrity Island 2017and what’s he said about cerebral palsy?
ROY Frank 'RJ' Mitte is best known for his performances in the critically-acclaimed drama Breaking Bad.
The actor, model and TV presenter has signed up for a stint Celebrity Island on Channel 4 but walked out of the show saying the group dynamics made it impossible to continue. Here's his story...
Who is RJ Mitte?
Born in Mississippi on August 21, 1992, Mitte was delivered by emergency caesarean and at the time of his birth was not breathing.
Sadly this resulted in him suffering from permanent brain damage. A few weeks later he was adopted by Roy Frank Mitte and Dyna Mitte.
At the age of three, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy - which required regular medical treatment including having his legs put in casts for six months in an attempt to straighten his feet.
He appeared as an extra in Disney series Hannah Montana - the show which made Miley Cyrus a global superstar - and was later offered the role of Walter White Jr in the AMC series Breaking Bad, which focused on a terminally ill teacher who becomes a crystal meth dealer.
The character also suffers from cerebral palsy and the role saw Mitte praised for his performances and he won several acting awards.
What else has RJ Mitte been in?
RJ has appeared in several movies including Stump, Dixieland and Who's Driving Doug - as well as producing and starring in Wildflowers, a movie he is working with alongside his sister Lacianne Carriere.
In 2016 he came to the attention of millions of Brits when he was selected by Channel 4 to present their coverage of the Rio Paralympic Games.
Ahead of the start of the games, Mitte told the BBC people should not "pity" Paralympians but be inspired by them.
He said: "These people can do things most other players can only dream of."
Is RJ Mitte married does he have a girlfriend?
In 2013 it was revealed that the actor was dating actress Jodi Lyn O'Keefe.
O'Keefe has appeared in hit show Prison Break and also as Josette Laughlin in The Vampire Diaries.
However, it is unclear if the pair are still dating.
What is Celebrity Island and when is it on TV?
A total of 10 celebs, including Towie's Lucy Mecklenburgh and Corrie's Ryan Thomas, spend a few weeks stranded on an island in Panama for the new series of Bear Grylls' show.
Welsh sprinter Iwan Thomas, TV doctor Sara Kayat, comedian Mark Watson, Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton, former Team GB swimmer Sharron Davies, Jordan Stephensfrom Rizzle Kicks and actress Shazia Mirza are all taking part in the new series of Celebrity Island.
The show returned to Channel 4 on August 29.
