SHAZIA Mirza is a comedian with her own distinctive, quick-witted style. 

The Birmingham born TV star will appear on the 2024 series of Channel 4's Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Shazia has had a long journey to get to her TV mega-stardom, having worked in many different fields in her career.

She's been a teacher and a comedian, but, for her, everything began in Birmingham.

Life as a teacher

Mirza was born in October 1979, in Birmingham, as the eldest daughter of Pakistani parents, who moved to Britain's 'Second City' in the 1960s.

She went to the University of Manchester, where she read Biochemistry, and then achieved a postgraduate in Education from Goldsmith, University of London.

Before finding fame as an entertainer, she worked began to work as a science teacher and once taught Dizzee Rascal, the award-winning rapper.

TV Star

Apart from her comedy shows, Shazia is also a regular contributor to a variety of newspapers and magazines.

She has appeared on a number of TV shows including The Jonathan Ross Show, Loose Women, Have I Got News For You and Celebrity Masterchef.

Mirza even once had a go as the star in the reasonably priced car - a popular celebrity featured on Top Gear.

Comedy icon

While she was a science teacher by day, Shazia was a comedian by night.

Her comedy became known for blurring the line between humour and controversy.

She also draws a lot of her comedy from her own experiences and life, and continues to do stand-up today.

Shazia Mirza's life away from the screen

Shazia now lives with her husband Khalid in Belsize Park, north London.

The comedian said that her mother was keen for her to settle down and that, before she got married, was often a talking point for them.

She said: “My mother keeps ringing me to say she warned me years ago about being a comedian and now look what’s happened.

"If only I’d married that nice doctor in Birmingham I’d be in a big semi-detached house by now.

“But no. I don’t mind – everyone has been googling celebrities to see if they are suffering like we are!"
