Katie Price thanks fans for their support as she reveals her mum is suffering from a terminal lung condition
KATIE Price has expressed her shock after her mum diagnosed with a terminal lung condition.
The former glamour girl, 39, reveals Amy, 64, is planning to make the most of the time she has left despite the heartbreaking news.
She took to Twitter to share her sadness with fans after Amy told her she is suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
The condition is a build up of scar tissue on the lungs that makes breathing increasingly difficult, and doctors have given Amy between three and five years to live.
Katie wrote: "Just to clarify for all of you reading.
"My mum has been diagnosed with a lung disease called Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) there is unfortunately no known cure for this.
"As a shock to us all, Me and my family are proud to be supporting the British Lung foundation to help support awareness and raising funds for research of IPF.
"With this we can help in other diagnosis and create awareness for people with IPF.
What is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis?
The condition is a build-up of scar tissue on the lungs that makes breathing increasingly difficult.
It typically affects those around the age of 70-75, and is rare for individuals under the age of 50.
Some people respond well to treatment, but others can find their condition gets rapidly worse, and other problems like chest infections or heart failure can occur.
Before the availability of treatments such as pirfenidone and nintedanib, around half of sufferers lived at least three years after their diagnosis.
Around one in five lived longer than five years, but it is hoped that new treatments will help to extend expectancy.
";The condition has an average life expectancy of 3-5 years. There are two known pills which if they work can slow things down.
"My mum is a fighter she is working out every day, going to work and living life to the full please help us in supporting The British Lung foundation so we can make a difference."
She added in a tweet: "Thanks for everyone's supportive messages ❤️."
The news is a huge blow for Katie after she recently revealed her marriage to Kieran Hayler is over.
Katie told The Sun On Sunday she is planning to file for divorce from husband number three after discovering he had a year-long affair with their children's nanny, Nikki Brown.
Kieran has now spoken out for the first time since Nikki denied Katie’s claims and branded the Loose Women star a liar.
He opened up about his sex addiction and admitted he would even bed an 80-year-old granny.
Kieran confessed to romping with the 40-year-old nanny five times in the marital home over a six month period but said the sex was “cheap, cold and meaningless”.
The former stripper, 30, said: “This wasn’t a big love affair, I didn’t fancy Nikki.
"I’m a sex addict and needed a thrill. If our nanny had been 80 I’d probably have tried to manipulate her into having sex too.
“It didn’t matter who it was, I just wanted a fix. If it wasn’t her it would have been someone else. It was a means to an end, the thrill of the chase.
“Can you imagine how embarrassed I am about being a sex addict, mortified at admitting this? Look at Katie . . . and look at her!
"I’ve hurt her, betrayed her and now need to stand up for her. However bad I feel, I know I have made Katie feel worse.”
