What is Sam Smith’s net worth and what have they said about being non-binary?
SAM Smith is a Grammy-award winning singer who has made as many headlines as much for their chart-topping music as for their personal life.
The hitmaker has since been applauded by fans for confirming the fact they now identify as non-binary and would like to be addressed by the pronouns 'they' and 'them'.
Does Sam Smith identify as non-binary?
Yes - the singer officially asked for the world to acknowledge the hitmaker's pronouns - which are now "They/Them".
Taking to Instagram, the Promises singer wrote: "I’ve decided I am changing my pronouns to THEY/THEM... after a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out.
"I’m so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I’ve been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think but fuck it! I understand there will be many mistakes and mis-gendering but all I ask is you please please try. I hope you can see me like I see myself now. Thank you."
They continued: "P.s. I am at no stage just yet to eloquently speak at length about what it means to be non binary but I can’t wait for the day that I am. So for now I just want to be VISIBLE and open."
Earlier in 2019, the singer spoke to Jameela Jamil in her Instagram series, I Weigh, to discuss their non-binary journey.
Sam said: "You do not identify in a gender. You are just you. You are your own special creation. That is how I take it.
"I am not male or female. I think I float somewhere in between - somewhat on the spectrum.
The Grammy award winner went on to add that they "think like a woman at times".
They told Jameela: "I’ve always had a bit of a war in my body and my mind... I do think like a woman in my head at times.
"I’ve sometimes sat there and questioned, do I want a sex change? It’s something I still think about, but I don’t think it is
"I’ve tried to change that into my thoughts on gender... when I move, when I have sex with men, it’s very feminine. I’m feminine in many ways - and I’ve resented that."

Their music industry breakthrough came when they were just 20 years old after house duo Disclosure featured their vocals on their track Latch.
At the time the group and the singer were both signed to PMR Records, but after releasing their own singles, Sam made their debut album, In The Lonely Hour.
The album hit number one in the UK in 2014, and their catchy string of tracks saw then start to feature on US TV.
They came out as gay in the same year and revealed a former relationship with Jonathan Zeizel had inspired their debut album.

That was followed by Adele-style ballad I'm Not The Only One.
Their popularity in the charts tailed off a little until he came back in 2015 with a brand new hit song, Writing's On The Wall - which was the theme of Bond movie Spectre.

Despite mixed reviews from music fans, Sam's Bond theme Writing's On The Wall - written by himself and Jimmy Napes "in 20 minutes" - won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 2016 Oscars.
But major controversy was caused when Sam collected their award.
Dedicating their win to the LGBT community, Sam claimed to be the first openly-gay man to ever receive an Oscar, which was not the case.
In fact, Sam wasn't even the first openly-gay man to have ever received Best Original Song, as Sir Elton John bagged one for Can You Feel The Love Tonight in 1995.
The win was also marred by a row between Sam and the filmmaker Dustin Lance Black, who angrily told them on Twitter to "stop texting" his partner Tom Daley.

"It's very very difficult. I love food so much so it's a constant battle. It's always going to be a battle but I'm trying my best."
Sam posted some selfies from the gym during their weight loss, though they say Freer's diet plan is all about learning to "love yourself".
