Robert Bathurst was born in Accra, Ghana, in 1957, where his management consultant father worked.
Aged two, Robert and his parents moved to Dublin, Ireland, before relocating to Sussex, England seven years later.
The academically gifted star became involved in amateur dramatics while on the south coast and, despite reading law at Cambridge, decided to pursue acting full time after graduating.
In 1983 he made his stage debut at the Savoy Theatre and starred in a series of TV shows throughout the decade including The Lenny Henry Show.
A recurring role in Joking Apart in 1991 paved the way for his role as David Marsden, coincidentally a management consultant, in Cold Feet in 1998.
