EastEnders star Lacey Turner’s husband Matt Kay fell in love with her ‘instantly’ when he met her at 15 wearing a Kappa tracksuit and hoop earrings – but she thought he was ‘arrogant’
The barber shop owner revealed he loved her cockney accent when they met for the first time but she thought he was a 'lairy know-it-all'
LACEY Turner’s husband has revealed he fell in love with her the first time they met – when they were just 15 and she was wearing a Kappa tracksuit and hoop earrings.
The barber shop owner shared the story of their first meeting in his emotional and amusing wedding speech, during their big day in Ibiza in 2017.
But it seems Lacey, who is best known for playing Stacey Slater in EastEnders, didn’t quite experience the same love at first sight.
He continued: “Now I’m afraid I can’t say the feeling was mutual. I was a little lairy know-it-all and she wasn’t impressed. But all it took was a few texts to woo her and the fact that she liked clean trainers and an amazing sense of humour worked massively well in my favour and she fell head heels for me in a couple of day.”
Lacey confirmed his tale, telling the magazine: “I did used to wear tracksuit bottoms and gold hoops!
"At first I wasn’t too keen on Matt as he was arrogant and - as he said in his speech - a lairy know-it-all, but I did start to think he was quite funny and we grew to be friends and now we’re married!”
Lacey has described her wedding as a "dream" ceremony.
She was dressed in a lacy champagne coloured wedding dress with a tulle skirt and a sheer top with a floral design.
Lacey opted to go bare-foot, while Matt looked laid back in a pair of chinos with a white shirt and braces.
The ceremony took place at just past 6pm as the sun started to set, while EastEnders stars James Bye, Jake Wood, Aaron Sidwell, Laurie Brett, Scott Maslen and former star Dame Barbara Windsor looked on.
