Who’s in The Child In Time cast? Benedict Cumberbatch, Kelly Macdonald, Stephen Campbell Moore and Saskia Reeves star

The new drama follows a couple struggling to cope after the abduction of their daughter

THE Child In Time is a highly-anticipated one-off 90 minute drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

The story is set two years after the three-year-old daughter of author Stephen Lewis (Benedict) went missing and will air tonight (Sunday, September 24) at 9pm on BBC One. Here's the lowdown on the cast.

Benedict Cumberbatch, 40, is one of the UK's best-known actors thanks to his title role in BBC drama Sherlock and his turn as Doctor Strange in 2016 Marvel blockbuster.

In 2004, after working exclusively in television, Benedict was widely praised for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in the TV biopoc Hawking.

Until that point, he had featured in short-lived series Fortysomething, in one episode of Tipping the Velvet and in a story arc on Silent Witness.

He continued to work in TV until 2006's Starter for 10, and then the Oscar-nominated film Atonement as the creepy Paul Marshall.

As a result, Benedict was already an established growing talent before landing the leading role in Sherlock in 2010.

Starring as the famed detective opposite Martin Freeman as Watson, the show has run for four series to date- each three episodes long.

Due to the series he has been recognised for his work across the globe - and propelled him into widely recognised films including The Imitation Game, 12 Years a Slave, Star Trek Into Darkness and Zoolander 2.

Between these, Benedict has worked alongside the National Theatre, and has appeared in plays including a modern retelling of Hamlet, and Frankenstein.

She got her big break playing Diane in the cut classic which was released back in 1996.

Since then she has starred in numerous TV shows including State Of Play, Boardwalk Empire and Black Mirror.

Her films roles include playing Peter Pan in Finding Neverland, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Nanny McPhee, No Country For Old Men and she even voiced Princess Merida in Disney blockbuster Brave.

Kelly's next role on the silver-screen is in Goodbye Christopher Robin opposite Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie.

Stephen Campbell Moore

London-born actor Stephen Campbell Moore plays Benedict's on-screen friend Charles in the BBC drama.

Stephen is married to The Crown star Claire Foy and is known for roles in The Bank Job, The History Boys and Season Of The Witch.

His TV credits include playing Thomas Andrews in the Titanic mini-series and he will star as Ed in war drama The Last Post.

Stephen will join Kelly on the silver-screen in Goodbye Christopher Robin opposite Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie.

Luther actress Saskia Reeves plays Thelma in this emotional TV drama.

Her other TV acting credits include Spooks, Vera, Wolf Hall and Midsomer Murders.

She is currently preparing for the role of Kent in King Lear which will be broadcast live from cinemas from Shakespeare's Globe in London.
