Beyoncé has got a new tattoo of the number 4 – but do you know why her and Jay Z are obsessed with it?
As fans believe Bey’s latest tattoo is a sign that she’s forgiven her husband for his infidelities, we look into just why the couple love the number four so much.
BEYONCE has shown fans another sign that she has forgiven Jay Z for cheating on her by revealing a new tattoo tribute of the number four to him.
The singer and her husband famously got Roman numerals IV – the number four – tattooed on their ring fingers in red ink after they tied the knot on April 4, 2008.
However, fans spotted the tattoo was fading when the pair stepped out to a basketball game together in May 2014, days after a video leaked of Solange attacking Jay Z.
Now though the tatt is back and appears to be a combination of the numerals IV and also looks like the letter J from the side.
But why is the number four some important to the couple?
The obsession starts from birth with both of them being born on the fourth day, Bey on September 4 1981 and Jay Z on December 4 1969.
Making it a family thing, Beyoncé’s mum Tina Lawson’s birthday also falls on the fourth of a month, being born in January 1954.
Then in 2008 they married on the fourth day of the fourth month.
While touring her fourth album which she aptly named 4, she explained the importance of it during a show called Elements of 4.
She told the audience: "On April 4, 2008 — eight divided by two is four — [Jay Z] put a ring on it.”
And while their eldest daughter Blue Ivy Carter missed out on being born on the fourth of the month, the couple hid the number in her name, with IV being the roman numerals for the digit, when she was born in January 2012.
Almost two years later Bey dropped her fifth album, Beyoncé on December 13, and while the number four isn’t obvious at first, the date does pay tribute to it with 1+3=4.
It’s not just Bey that’s throwing fours into her music, Jay Z’s latest album is called 4:44 and is his most personal and candid yet.
He appeared to confess to cheating Beyonce during their nine-year marriage when he released his album in July, even hinting that he enjoyed threesomes behind her back.
In the intimate title track from album 4:44, he also alludes to his fear that the couple’s three children – including twins Rumi and Sir Carter – will find out about his mistakes.
Speaking of the song, he told iHeart Radio: “‘4:44' is a song that I wrote, and it's the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album.
“And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 a.m., to write this song.
“So, it became the title of the album and everything. It's the title track because it's such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I've ever written.”
Even Barack Obama has been brought into the mix.
In 2009 Beyoncé sang at his Inauguration, and later serenaded him and Michelle with the Etta James song At Last. And of course, Obama was the 44th US president…
