DOCTOR Foster fans were left stunned by tonight’s cliffhanger with Gemma seemingly poised to run over her cheating ex Simon.
Suranne Jones, 39, who plays scorned Dr Gemma Foster, neared former husband Simon as he marched down the road in the second series’ penultimate episode.
The episode ended right as she swerved but will she knock down her former husband?
Viewers were delighted as Simon got his comeuppance after Gemma told Kate they had slept together and that he had been lying to her for years.
Kate came to her senses about her husband, as Gemma revealed their wedding song was her favourite and that he wore cuff links she had gifted him on their seventh anniversary.
She said coming back had been for her “benefit” and that he was still obsessed with her.
Gemma also finally revealed that the wedding speech Simon gave about her was what was in the box she handed to her in episode one.
Simon arrived home to find Kate had moved everything out of their impressive mansion and left him with nothing but a small bag of clothes.
Gemma arrived after Kate had left with their parents and daughter and Simon screamed at her through the car door that she had ruined his life.
However, as she drove away she felt guilty for leaving her ex with nothing as her son Tom asked if he was OK.
She offered to pay for two nights in a hotel but he refused and set off on foot to “get his son”.
Simon’s parting words were: “The only way I’m leaving . . . is in a coffin.”
BEEB’S FINAL TWIST Next week’s Doctor Foster series finale may be last episode EVER, hints writer
A determined looking Gemma then watched him walk down the road before she sped towards him.
The chilling ending comes after promotional shots for the X-rated BBC1 hit showed ex-Coronation Street star Suranne with a bloody wedding ring finger.
Some fans have speculated Gemma will kill Simon — played by Bertie Carvel, 40 — while others reckon she will regret her actions after knocking him over and use her medical expertise to save him.
One wrote: “Imagine it’s a twist…and she swerves crashes into a tree or something and dies?! Sh!ts about to get real. #DoctorFoster”.
Another added: “That #DoctorFoster finale is going to be baaaaaaadass! Top TV! Too much talk of “leaving in a coffin” for it not to happen…”
The explosive scenes came after writer Mike Bartlett hinted that the series two finale could mean the end of the drama for good.
He teased: “Depending on what happens at the end of series two, a third might not be possible… That’s all I can say really.”
