Singer Emeli Sande reveals she’s ready to get married again and have children after finding love with a mystery man
EMELI SANDE has built her career on heart-wrenching hits about break-ups.
But the superstar singer’s tone could be about to change.
Speaking in the latest episode of my Bizarre Life podcast, which you can download from Apple Podcasts, iTunes, Spotify or your favourite podcast provider, the Scot reveals she wants to marry again and have children.
Following her 2013 divorce from Adam Gouraguine — who inspired her huge second album Long Live The Angels — she is “happy” after finding love with a mystery man and has a different outlook on life too.
On the prospect of tying the knot for a second time, Emeli believes she might now know the secret to a successful marriage.
She told me: “I feel at the point in my life where I just know myself so well. I can be honest with someone if I don’t like certain things, or they don’t like things about me.
“There’s maturity that I think you need for marriage and I feel like I’ve reached that level, I hope, now.”
And kids are very much on the agenda says Emeli, adding: “I think it would be really fun. I mean, I imagine the children so perfect, like they just love watching me write songs and sitting silently. That’s the dream.
“When I think about it there, yeah, I’d love it, I’d love children.”
Her new-found happiness can be noticed in her music.
Starlight, the first single from new EP Kingdom Coming, which is out on November 3, is much more upbeat compared to her previous material, and has a garage/R&B vibe.
Emeli’s huge debut album, Our Version Of Events, was the soundtrack of 2012, when it became a running joke that she performed at every big event.
The singer admits her fear of the public growing bored of her sparked her decision not to rush-release records shortly after, despite huge demand for her music.
She said: “I really try to put my whole soul and emotion out there, so I’d never want to feel like it wasn’t something people wanted to hear.
“It was like people were getting tired of it.
“I wanted to go away and develop as an artist as well because, often when you’re doing your first album and you’re performing so much, there’s not much time to be in the studio and just learn more and grow as a person to make better music.
“That was a part of the decision, but I definitely never want people to get tired of hearing my voice.”
Running the risk of over-exposure also played a part in her turning down a judging role on telly talent show The Voice.
She said: “I remember people asking me about it. But I’d think it would just be a no.
“I wouldn’t want to say the wrong thing that could really break someone’s heart and this dream they’ve had.”
Ruthless talent show judge really isn’t lovely Emeli’s bag.
How Bizarre...
I asked Emeli Sande to tell me her most unusual...
Advice: NAUGHTY BOY is very good at giving pep talks and he just said to me, ‘Why are you acting like we’re going to live for ever – you need to really be present in the moment’.
Dream about another celebrity: I always have dreams that me and BEYONCÉ are friends. It wasn’t very bizarre but I really liked it. I’ve never met her. I hope to.
Party: I went to the Roc Nation branch in LA. JAY-Z and P DIDDY was there, RIHANNA was over there. It was all in this garden and we were just being little like bad girls in the corner. It was really cool.
