Dramatic new Peaky Blinders trailer hints at tragedy for the Shelbys as Adrien Brody makes debut in intense role
THE minute-long clip sees intimidating Brummie brothers Arthur and Tommy Shelby return along with Tom Hardy's Jewish gang leader Alfie Solomons for series four.
OSCAR-WINNING actor Adrien Brody makes his Peaky Blinders debut in a dramatic new trailer for the upcoming series four.
The star-studded cast also sees Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory all return in the BBC’s gritty drama following a Brummie gang led by Tommy Shelby (Murphy).
The much-anticipated series looks ominous for the Shelby clan, with the family matriarch Polly (McCrory) heard saying they’re out of their league, after seemingly being led to the hangman’s noose.
Tommy looks tense throughout as he prepares to come face to face with his most formidable rival yet, Brody’s intense Italian gangster, who chillingly declares: “We are an organisation of a different dimension.”
There’ll be plenty of the programme’s trademark violence, with Tommy seen shooting a pistol skywards while stood in a boxing ring, before firing a huge machine gun at his enemies.
Hardy is visible only for a second or two as Jewish gang leader Alfie Solomons, but even he appears troubled as he gazes solemnly into the distance.
Steven Knight, the show’s writer, previously revealed his plans for the gang to reach the 1920s period – and see the fallout of the General Strike in 1926.
He revealed that he thought the time was a true “between the wars” story, as the city recovered from World War One with no knowledge of the impending World War Two.
The writer revealed: “I hope it does run and run all the way up to the Second World War, but it does get harder to get the cast together as the actors are being pulled into feature films. It’s a victim of its own success.”
Knight previously told the Metro: “Adrien plays the threat to the family and possibly the biggest they’ll face.”
And of another new addition, Game Of Thrones’ Aidan Gillen, he said: “Aidan is a sort of, in the fact of danger it’s like pressing the nuclear button – you get him to help. Let me put it that way.
“We have been very fortunate to get two really legendary actors. We get a lot of actors who want to be a part of Peaky Blinders which is great but we try not to make it a ‘spot the star’ sentiment, and just get actors who are really perfect for the role.”
