Highly-anticipated finale of Doctor Foster could be the last as writer reveals he is yet to write another episode
TONIGHT’s highly-anticipated series finale of Doctor Foster is expected to wrap up the many twists and turns of the last five weeks.
But despite being the most talked-about drama on TV, writer MIKE BARTLETT says that this episode could well be the last.
In an exclusive interview, Mike said: “No, I haven’t written a third series.
“The BBC has never ever put pressure on us to do more and it’s not that sort of show. You could see that at the end of series one. There was just as many people going, ‘Don’t do a series two’. It’s because people care and I love that.
“There’s a lot of trust that we’d only do more if there’s a story and a reason. So there’s no pressure to do more. We all just focus on the one we’re doing and that’s a massive amount of work for everybody.”
Tonight picks up from last week’s cliffhanger with Gemma (played by SURANNE JONES) in a car veering towards cheating ex-hubby Simon (BERTIE CARVEL).
My teaser image shows Gemma, son Tom, receptionist Ros and fling James out for a meal when there’s a disturbance.
The ending has been kept firmly under wraps but Suranne has teased this could be her last time as the GP.
She said: “Tuesday could end this thing totally.
“I’m busy in a play next year and then I go off with SALLY WAINWRIGHT to the Yorkshire Moors for Gentleman Jack. I’m not available until January 2019.”
I reckon the BBC will bring it back for a third series — but we’ll have to wait a while.

Sick surgeon twists knife
VIEWERS of ITV drama Liar are still reeling from the revelation that Andrew Earlham was the bad guy all along – but the drama is set to get darker.
Last night’s episode saw the suave surgeon, played by IOAN GRUFFUDD, inset, drug detective Vanessa Harmon and rape her as she lay unconscious at home.
Bloody scenes in her bathroom later proved to be particularly upsetting as six million shocked fans were confronted with the sinister new twist.
Now insiders say the drama is set to turn even more horrifying as teacher Laura, played by JOANNE FROGGATT, seeks revenge.
A source said: “This is far from over. There are still two episodes left and now that Andrew has been exposed, there are plenty more twists and turns to come.” Here’s hoping he gets what he deserves.

CORONATION STREET’s vicar Billy Mayhew is to confess he killed Ken’s daughter, Susan Barlow.
It had been thought that Susan had lost control of her car when she died in a tragic motorway smash in 2001.
But in shock scenes, Billy will admit to Todd that he caused the crash.
A soap source revealed: “For 16 years he’s been wracked by guilt.
“It’s going to be a huge storyline this Christmas.”
