THE X Factor’s brutal six chair challenge took place this weekend – and now, contestant Holly Tandy tells The Sun Online, backstage tensions are heating up and things are getting tense.

In an exclusive interview today, Holly – who is the series youngest singer at just 16 – told us that things are getting ‘tense’ and that they’ve all realised that they’re competing for very few places in the show.

“It’s not necessarily competitive backstage, but it’s tense," she told us today.

"I think everybody’s rooting for each other, but we’re all each other’s competition at the end of the day.

"It’s difficult to kind of draw that line, to say, you know, we’re great mates and I’m really rooting for you, but sorry – you cannot have any of my Manuka honey.”

Manuka honey is used by singers to keep their throats from getting sore – and is very expensive.

Holly sang Lady Gaga’s Edge Of Glory at the weekend, and survived the Six Chair Challenge to go through to judges houses with girls mentor Sharon Osbourne.

Talking about being the youngest artist in the competition, she told us: “I want to prove that lowering the age limit was the right decision for X Factor.”

Holly says that she wants to “show young people that you can follow your dreams no matter what,” and be a role model for younger fans.

She’s already been praised by the judges – with Sharon telling her just to “sit down” in this weekend’s Six Chair Challenge, and Simon Cowell crediting her ‘determination’ after she told a story – at the audition stage – about singing to an empty room in a pub when the audience left.

He said: "Can I tell you something Holly Tandy, you define determination. For someone who went into a club and people walked out and you've come back fighting and you're 15-years-old."

But the judges also offered a word of warning to Holly - urging her to define her own style and not rely on copying successful American stars.

The warmest praise after her performance came from Nicole Scherzinger - who told the Northern lass: "I love you, like you were staring at us in our eyeballs and that takes a lot of courage. I think there's so much of potential here."

After her audition ended, which saw Holly earn four yes votes from the panel, her grandfather - a singer in his youth - could be seen weeping with pride.
