THE Disney Channel is to screen a gay storyline for the first time.
Its comedy-drama Andi Mack takes the historic step in its second season.
The show — aimed at teenagers — follows a 13-year-old girl coming to terms with growing up.
It will see pals Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and Cyrus (Joshua Rush) discover they share feelings for the same boy.
Disney Channel said: “Andi Mack is a story about ‘tweens’ figuring out who they are.”
It added that the show sends a “powerful message about inclusion and respect for humanity”.
It said great care was taken to ensure it is appropriate for all audiences.
The first episode of the new series will be shown in the US today.
