CHARLOTTE Hawkins broke down in tears live on Good Morning Britain today as she watched the John Lewis Christmas advert for the first time.

But the 42-year-old, who was seen blubbing as the camera panned back to her after the advert aired, blamed her emotional reaction on being hungover.

The presenter had spent the previous evening partying hard at the ITV Gala and it seems she might have had one too many Proseccos.

After seeing the ad, she declared: “Christmas adverts always get me. Sorry, just move on it’s fine.

“I think… we had a big night last night and then all of a sudden you give me a Christmas advert.”

Her co-presenters found the whole situation rather amusing, although Richard Arnold had a tear in his eye too.

Ben Shephard mocked her asking: “Are you leaking prosecco out of your eyes?”

While Richard joked: “This is just remorse for overdoing it last night!”

The hotly anticipated ad, which is always known as being a tear-jerker, features a big-nosed creature called Moz who hides under the bed of a boy, scaring him until they find a shared glee in trumping.

They soon become pals and are seen playing Scalextric and giving each other piggy backs late into the night.

But viewers see that Joe’s lack of sleep leaves him tired, as he falls asleep writing his Christmas pressie wish list and also dozing off while goalie in a football game.

His dad and sister notice, as does Moz when Joe falls asleep while they play Battleships into the early hours.

But Moz looks thoughtful, and next we jump to Christmas morning when Joe sees a scrappily-wrapped pressie under the tree.

Joe assumes it's from his monster pal, though a knowing look from his mum tells eagle-eyed viewers it is from his parents.

The hidden message is they know he has created the imaginary friend Moz to help him deal with being scared by the dark.

John Lewis 2017 Christmas advert follows a seven-year-old boy scared of a monster snoozing under his bed - but eventually bond and become friends over a fart

The pressie is a night light - which is enough to make Moz disappear when Joe uses it on Christmas night.

The ad, known as Moz the Monster, ends with the strapline: “For gifts that brighten the world.”

But there is a twist, as when Joe turns off the light, Moz reappears.
