X FACTOR viewers were up in arms last night after The Cutkelvins broke one of the main rules of the show.
Last night’s live instalment was dedicated to George Michael with the contestants performing some of his greatest hits from Wham! and his solo material.
However Simon Cowell’s Scottish trio didn’t dip into the late singer’s extensive back catalogue and instead opted to sing a mash-up of two songs that he covered.
Introducing them, Simon said: "Singing not one of George Michael's songs but two of his greatest ever covers, The Cutkelvins."
The Scottish popstars then took to the stage to deliver a stellar performance of Seal’s Killer and The Temptations’ Papa Was A Rolling Stone.
And Twitter was NOT happy.
One viewer asked: "So let me gets this straight, the Calvert-Lewins or whatever they’re called are covering Seal & The Temptations.......on George Michael week"
Another branded them “disrespectful”, posting: "Why did the Cutkelvins not do a George Michael song? Disrespectful doing a cover when he gave so much"
And a third said: "George Michael has so many incredible songs...so why didn't the Cutkelvins sing one of them?!"
Others saw the funny side and wondered what they’d be bringing to the table next week.
One person tweeted: “Next week for Elton John week The Cutkelvins will sing 'I wanna dance with somebody' cos Elton sung it in the shower once. #XFactor”
And another joked: “Next week it’s Prince week and The Cutkelvins will sing “Orange Rain” #Xfactor”
Despite being mocked by those at home, it was an emotional performance for the group as it marked the anniversary of their dad’s death.
Following the performance Nicole said: “Your father is with us in spirit and I think you made him very proud.”
And Louis added: “Your father would be very proud of you watching that, it was your best performance yet, it was one of George’s favourite live songs.”
Last night’s show was filled with gaffes after Simon forgot the line-up and Nicole called Irish brothers Sean and Conor Scottish.
