Anna Richardson reveals she’s considering adoption after discovering she is infertile – but doesn’t know how partner Sue Perkins feels about it
ANNA Richardson has revealed she is considering adoption after learning she was infertile 10 years ago.
The presenter who has been in a relationship with former Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins since 2013, spoke on Loose Women today at her “sadness” at not yet having children.
The 47-year-old said: “I’m sad actually, I'm careering headlong into 50 and I’m sad that I’ve not had my babies.”
And while she is unsure what Sue, 48, wants, Anna is now open to adopting in order to become a mum.
She added: “I can’t speak for Sue but I’m considering looking at adoption and trying to create our own little family, it’s important to me.”
Anna was shocked to discover that her chances of having a child had almost completely diminished by the time she was 37, however, when she was 40 she did become pregnant but sadly miscarried.
She told the panel: “The really, really sad thing, was when I was about 40 I did accidentally get pregnant and I very sadly lost my baby.
“And I had an ectopic pregnancy when I was 20 and that nearly killed me.”
During her show at the Edinburgh Festival this year, Anna spoke about the unsual circumstances in which she discovered she was infertile.
Speaking about her filming of Channel Four’s The Sex Education Show in 2007, she said: “I have a story about a show I did a few years ago called The Sex Education Show, which I loved but as a part of it my producer said to me, ‘We want to do something about fertility, so would you be prepared to have your fertility tested?’
“I thought, 'F*** it, I'm in my 30s, I've got tonnes of eggs, I'm fine'. And off we went to this fertility clinic. My director at the time was pregnant and she went in to speak to the doctors and I was stood outside for ages and ages with the crew.
“I knew something was going on. Eventually the doctor appeared and said, 'Can I have a word with you?'
“And she took me to one side and she said, 'I'm really sorry but you've got nothing. You're completely infertile'.
“And the thing that I still cannot get over is that my director had phoned the office and told them before I had got the news that I couldn't have children.”
