Olly Murs’ ex-girlfriend Francesca Thomas who ‘broke his heart’ is engaged – one day after it’s revealed the singer has been secretly dating Mel Sykes for almost a year
Francesca's fiancé popped the question while the couple were on holiday in New York
OLLY Murs' ex-girlfriend Francesca Thomas has got engaged to her boyfriend, Ollie Rogers.
The news comes just a day after The Sun's Bizarre column revealed singer Olly, who was left heartbroken when he split from Francesca, has secretly been dating Melanie Sykes for a year.
A source told The Sun Online: "Ollie proposed at the Ludlow hotel in NY on holiday. They're super happy and telling family and friends."
The Troublemaker singer split from Francesca in September 2015, but he told The Sun earlier this year that his heart was still broken.
He wrote his 2016 album 24 Hrs about the split and insisted the pair were still friends, telling : "We're still friends, we get on great. She loved the songs and she wished me all the best."
The star now appears to have found love again, with model and TV presenter Melanie.
The new Voice coach, 33, and his fitness fanatic lover, 47, tried to keep their fling under wraps by insisting they were just pals.
But they have enjoyed a string of hush-hush dates at each other’s houses after bonding over their mutual love of keeping fit.
A showbiz source revealed: “Mel loves a younger man and really fell for Olly when he got into shape late last year.
“They were initially introduced through a mutual friend. They started texting for ages and some of the messages ended up getting quite saucy.
“They were bonding over her fitness programme. He was a fan of her gym selfies and thought that she had an amazing body.
“Olly was getting in shape at the time and Mel really loved his new fit bod.
“They ended up meeting for a date and have had a whole series of secret dates at his house where she will sometimes stay overnight.
“They have both been determined for nobody to find out. It’s been a bit off and on and there’s a real physical attraction between them.”
In April Mel posted a picture on Instagram of the pair backstage with the caption: “Not much can get me out on a Saturday night but this guy has!”
But she first hinted at her love for the former X Factor star in December last year — as she showered him with praise online.
Posting a picture of Olly’s track Flaws, she wrote: “Love this track @ollymurs you sound like an angel makes me want to cry x.”
He replied with a kiss emoji and wrote back: “Awwww thanks babe.”
Olly has not been in a serious relationship since splitting from long-term girlfriend Francesca Thomas in 2015.
The singer — previously linked to former X-Factor co-host Caroline Flack, 37 — later admitted he was heartbroken after their split, which he blamed on his “addiction” to work.
He was also spotted cosying up to wannabe pop star Nadine Hermez after a night out on the town earlier this year.
Mel broke up from her second husband Jack Cockings — a roofer 16 years her junior — in 2014 after they met via Twitter.
She was arrested and cautioned by police for allegedly assaulting him before they split after seven months.
Both Olly and Mel are huge Manchester United fans — with the pop star even owning his own box at Old Trafford.
Mancunian Mel, who starred in the Boddingtons Bitter ads in the 1990s, once tweeted the Essex-born star after he posed with United manager Jose Mourinho.
She told him: “You are just really getting on my nerves now. #jealous.”
